Dallas guarantees defensive end for the season- but can still lose him next year.
Last Wednesday, the Dallas Cowboys experienced a day filled with external movements that stirred the franchise.
While the eyes of the sports media remained attentive to the fallout from Jerry Jones’ statements regarding the offseason inactivity, surprising news reverberated throughout the league: the Detroit Lions renewed the contract of their wide receiver, Amon-ra St. Brown, in a massive financial agreement, equating him to Tyreek Hill as the highest-paid WR in the NFL.
This shift in the salary landscape is likely to have significant implications for the Cowboys organization, especially concerning future negotiations with CeeDee Lamb.
On the other side, Micah Parsons is still waiting for his contract extension, which is expected to make him the highest paid pass rusher in the league. This wait fuels both the anxiety of fans and speculations as Parsons has solidified himself as a crucial piece in the Cowboys’ defense and one of the NFL’s top talents.

At least Parsons is guaranteed in the 2024 roster
By the end of Wednesday, leaving 24 hours until the Draft, the Cowboys decided to exercise Parsons’ fifth-year option as a defensive end.
Maybe the franchise could have picked up his final rookie year as a linebacker, but that would mean more money for them to spend. Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reported the news.
As things stand, he will cost Dallas $21.324 million. If he were placed as LB, he’d make an extra $3 million. This is determined according to the number of snaps he has had in a given position. Overall, he has played more DE than LB.
According to Pro Football Focus, 87.8 per cent of his snaps last season were as a defensive end.
What if there is no movement for an extension
There are still a few months to go before the season really gets underway. Until then, the pass-rusher must wait anxiously for his contract extension.
If there aren’t even talks about keeping him on the team long-term, it’s very likely that Parsons will hold out and miss training camp.
At least the move to pick up his fifth-year option shows that there is commitment to having him in the squad.
Lamb and Dak Prescott are still waiting for their fates in Dallas.
