Dak Prescott is lighting it up on Monday Nights: Exploring QB’s impressive record

The day of the week most of us dread is the one that Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott seems to relish more than any: Monday.

Dallas’ upcoming battle with the Los Angeles Chargers will only be the sixth game for Dak Prescott on Monday night and the first time the Cowboys have battled the AFC on a Monday since losing 28-14 to the Tennessee Titans in 2018.

That was the only time that the Cowboys #4 lost a game on Monday night, as he boasts a record of 4-1 heading into their upcoming clash.

History suggests we could see many good things out of Prescott and the team when they face the Chargers at SoFi Stadium.

Dak shines under the lights

In his five previous Monday Night Football affairs, Prescott has an average competition percentage of 70.8, including three games over the 70% mark, while completing 80.8% of his throws in his last Monday night contest, as Dallas defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 41-14 in September 2021.

Prescott has not only been accurate throwing the ball on Mondays but has also not made many poor decisions, failing to toss an interception in three of five contests.

One area of concern has been the pressure he’s faced against opposing defenses on Monday night games, with Prescott being sacked a total of nine times in two of his last three Monday night contests after only having two against him in his first two Monday night fixtures.

His 153 passing yards against San Fran last weekend were the fewest that Prescott has accumulated in a single regular-season contest this year.

He has thrown for over 200 yards on Monday night on four of five occasions, only managing 183 versus the Arizona Cardinals on September 25, 2017.

Not only has Prescott gotten the offense moving more often than not in these primetime spots, but this team has found the end zone with more regularity on Monday night as well.

With Prescott behind centre, the Cowboys have scored multiple touchdowns through the air in every one of his five games played, including three on three occasions, with 13 altogether.

Numbers like that suggest a high quarterback rating, and that’s been the case for Prescott, who has a 100+ QB rating in four of five Monday night contests, with his highest coming in his first Monday Night Football appearance in 2016 (148.3) and his worst being in their 2018 defeat to Tennessee (99.3).

Prescott has also recorded 255+ yards in each of the Cowboys’ last five games against AFC opponents, with Dallas winning their two encounters versus the opposite conference this season by a combined score of 68-13.

Finally, Dak has been remarkably accurate when facing the AFC, recording 23+ competitions in seven of his last eight games played against that conference.

Their upcoming visit to Los Angeles will be the only Monday Night Football game for the Cowboys this season but could, without a doubt, be the one we look back on as potentially a make-or-break moment for this club in 2023.
