The Cowboys’ loss to the 49ers was humbling for America’s Team, particularly the offense that put up fewer than 200 total yards (197) for the first time all season.
Fingers have been pointed squarely at Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott following their performance last Sunday, as he completed 14 of his 24 passes for 153 yards and three interceptions.
All of his interceptions came in the second half after Dallas had grabbed a little momentum with a touchdown drive late in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 21-7.
Two of the three second-half picks tossed by Prescott were converted into touchdowns by the Niners’ offense putting to bed any doubt of a Cowboys comeback.

Dak criticism
LeSean McCoy, a former two-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowl running back, has called Prescott out following that loss.
Appearing on FS1’s “Speak,” McCoy was asked to assess Prescott’s performance against the Niners.
“Ass,” was his initial response during his appearance on the show.
“The truth is, he’s not good,” added McCoy, while the former two-time Super Bowl champion referenced Prescott’s three interceptions, saying: “You can’t win with a guy like that.”
Turnovers were a problem for the Cowboys pivot in 2022, as he threw a career-high 15 of them in just 12 games, though he’d only tossed one before last Sunday.
While he isn’t turning the ball over as much as last year, Prescott’s passing numbers are a little lower than we’re used to seeing.
After five games this season, the Mississippi State product has thrown for just 1.061 yards, his second-lowest total to this stage of a season (961 in 2018).
One of the other positives for the Cowboys pivot has been his accuracy, as he boasts a completion percentage of 69.4 this year, which is currently the highest of his NFL career.
Harsh words
McCoy isn’t the only former Pro Bowler taking a shot at Prescott this week, as Donte Whitner had some harsh words for the Cowboys QB.
The former strong safety, who now works for NBC Sports in the Bay Area, said: “Dak Prescott sucks. Period.”
As for Prescott, he was critical of himself and his performance as well.
“Didn’t see it coming,” he said. “Put everything into it and got punched in the mouth. Called it a couple weeks ago humbling against Arizona, but this may be the most humbling I’ve ever been a part of. Felt good about the preparation and felt good about everything, honestly, coming into this game, matchups, and they beat us in every aspect.”
Dak is only signed with Dallas until next season, so there will be plenty of incentive for the two-time Pro Bowler to step it up from here on out.
He has a dozen more games to show last week’s performance was a minor speedbump.
The good news for Cowboys fans is that Prescott rarely turns the ball over as often as we saw last week.
Counting that defeat to the Niners, he’s only thrown three interceptions in a single game three times (2017 versus the Eagles and 2019 against Green Bay).
