Dak Prescott has revealed his new nickname for Brandon Aubrey amid the Cowboys kicker’s perfect start to NFL life.
The Dallas Cowboys came through a tough encounter with the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6 to head into the bye week with a 4-2 record.
Dak Prescott rushed for one touchdown and threw another as Dallas beat the Chargers 20-17. It was a close affair down the stretch, with a muffed punt allowing the Chargers to tie the game at 17-17 in the fourth quarter. Prescott then lead the Cowboys on a 15-play, 54-yard drive to set up a winning field goal for Brandon Aubrey with just over two minutes remaining.
Aubrey then made the 39-yarder for a 20-17 lead with 2:19 remaining which the Cowboys were able to hold onto.

Cowboys kicker on precipice of NFL history
That field goal was Aubrey’s 16th successful field goal from 16 attempts this season. That’s just two shy of the NFL record for consecutive makes (18) to start a career, which was set by Travis Coons with Cleveland in 2015.
Aubrey, a 28-year-old rookie, will have the chance to chip away at the record, and hopefully break it, when the Cowboys return to action at home against the Los Angeles Rams on October 29th.
Dallas has struggled for continuity at the kicker position in recent times, but seem to have found consistency with Aubrey after moving on from Brett Maher.
He is a former professional soccer player
Aubrey spent his college years playing soccer at Notre Dame as a defender, and was eventually a first-round draft selection to Major League Soccer in 2017 after he was picked by Toronto FC.
After being released from the Bethlehem Steel FC in 2018, Aubrey decided to use the degree he got at Notre Dame to become a software engineer. However, he continued to work with former Mississippi State kicker and kicking coach Brain Egan and was drafted as a placekicker by the Birmingham Stallions in the 2022 USFL draft.
He became the USFL’s top kicker for its best team and was eventually brought to the Cowboys training camp. After competing with Tristan Vizcaino, he became the team’s next kicker.

Dak Prescott’s new nickname for Brandon Aubrey as kicker sits on precipice of NFL history
After the game against the Chargers, Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott revealed his new nickname for the Cowboys kicker.
“He is butter,” Dak said of Aubrey.
“Butter Aubrey. Smooth, always has been since the day he showed up. I am a big fan of his game. I met and have known him years before he became a Dallas Cowboy.
“One of my best friends trains him. To know his story and following him when he was in the USFL and then for us to take a chance on him when we had another kicker [Tristan Vizcaino] in the preseason. He’s an athlete playing kicker. When you have that, he has been a professional in soccer, in another football league and now in the NFL, he is mature as hell. Butter with it. Smooth. No surprise.”
“He [Aubrey] can crush it,” Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy added. “He is so consistent. I enjoy watching him work. He is off to a great start. I don’t know that I have seen a start like this in my time with a kicker.”
It’s fair to say it’s been quite the whirlwind for the former soccer player in recent months.
