Cowboys expert shuts down Dak Prescott’s ‘perfect’ replacement talks, it is a former Super Bowl winner

The Dallas Cowboys have dawdled with Dak Prescott’s contract extension and fans are mentally preparing for the option of their signal-caller hitting unrestricted free agency in 2025.

After the Dallas Cowboys slumped to another underwhelming playoff defeat, much of the blame was aimed at Dak Prescott.

The 30-year-old boats a 2-5 playoff record after eight years as the Cowboys starter.

Moreover, their defeat in the 2023 playoffs marked 28 years since the franchise last competed in an NFC Championship game.

Prescott was on fire during the regular season but crumbled in the playoffs

Despite regular season success, America’s Team cannot shake the curse of the dreaded playoffs.

Prescott finished second in the MVP race but threw two interceptions in the opening postseason game. Some sections of fans are unconvinced that Prescott is the quarterback to deliver them to a Super Bowl.

He now enters the final year of his four-year deal that he signed back in 2021, but an extension is not imminent.

Jerry Jones could make the Dallas quarterback play out his contract year and risk letting him test free agency in 2025.

The three-time Pro Bowler will be in demand come March 2025 and the New York Giants have been suggested as a suitable landing spot.

Therefore, the Cowboys may undergo a rebuild next year in the most premium position.

Suggestions have been made for Prescott’s successor and Russell Wilson has been mentioned

Analysts and reporters have been brainstorming possibilities for America’s Team at quarterback in 2025, ideas ranging from the NFL Draft, to trades, or free agency.

USA Today described the Pittsburgh Steelers Russell Wilson as the ‘perfect’ replacement for Prescott.

Wilson’s glory days in Seattle are well behind him and his latest disaster in Denver has plunged his career into turmoil.

The Denver Broncos decided to cut their quarterback after he had signed a five-year $245 million extension only two years before.

In 2024 free agency, he signed a one-year deal with the Steelers to resurrect his career but will compete with Justin Fields for the starting role.

Furthermore, as Wilson is set to become a free agent in 2025, he, of course, is an option for the Cowboys, but not a good one.

Mike Fisher disregards any notion of Wilson being the Cowboys future QB in 2025

Cowboys expert Mike Fisher was quick to shut down the possible idea of Wilson being the ‘perfect’ replacement.

“Russell Wilson is not the perfect replacement for Dak Prescott, not even close,” Fisher said via his podcast.

“I’m not even sure and Pittsburgh is not even sure he is the perfect replacement for Mitch Trubisky.”

Wilson is at an imperative crossroads in his NFL career where he can either, sink or swim.

Prescott is comfortably a better quarterback than Wilson and if the Cowboys did consider the latter, they should be getting their checkbook out now for Dak.
