Cowboys expert gives ‘personal deadline’ for when he will ‘accept’ that Dak Prescott is leaving

America’s Team is now preparing to expose their rookies to the franchise’s training camp but has still not actively searched for progressive solutions to Dak Prescott’s persistent contractual problem.

The longer it goes on, the more alarm bells will start to ring in the minds of the loyal fanbase.

Dak Prescott is comfortable in his current situation, despite only having one active year on his current deal. Moreover, his deal from 2021 has concluded its penultimate season, and an extension is needed to keep hold of the franchise signal-caller.

However, Jerry Jones has stalled on showing an extension in Dak Prescott’s direction as of today.

The front office made their approach clear but has made no movement to begin contract talks

His son Stephen Jones has claimed they are keen to proceed with the 30-year-old as the face of the franchise, despite the lack of tangible success.

A 2-5 career playoff record has cast a shadow over the 2023 MVP runner-up’s future.

Jerry Jones’ hesitation to approach the negotiation table speaks volumes to his thought process and Prescott could be made to play out his deal.

The perfect time to have granted an extension, if they planned to do so, would have been before the NFL Draft and free agency.

His deal could have been restructured and America’s Team would have had more cap space to play with during free agency.

Nonetheless, they chose not to and the longer the contract dispute lasts the more telling it becomes.

Cowboys expert gives personal deadline before he accepts Prescott is moving on

On the Up & Adams Show, Cowboys expert RJ Ochoa, who is editor-in-chief @BloggingTheBoys, was invited on.

They spoke about Dak Prescott’s contract predicament and when should the panic button be pressed.

“My own personal deadline I’ve put on it, if the Cowboys return to Frisco for a portion of training camp, if they return from California without it [Prescott’s extension], because they do tend to historically do big-time extensions while in California, that’s when I would reach death-con one and start to feel like this was going south.”

The Cowboys spend part of their offseason program training in California before returning to The Star Frisco at a later date.

Dak Prescott will leave if no extension is agreed to before an offseason return to The Star

In Ochoa’s personal opinion, Dak Prescott will look to be set to test the open market if a deal has not been agreed upon for their offseason return to The Star.

Jerry Jones is not impartial to making rash decisions but also kicking the can down the road and waiting until the last moment. He works out deals at his own pace, previously showing he does not speed up for anyone.

At the moment, it is wise to keep an open mind and accept there is a realistic chance that the 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year will be tempted to look for better offers in 2025.

Ultimately, the Cowboys front office does not want to overpay but Prescott knows he can command a giant wage.
