Cowboys coach says star receiver is a ‘man on a mission’

Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said that CeeDee Lamb was a ‘man on a mission’ all week leading up his impressive display against the Chargers.

It’s amazing how quickly things can turn around. After the humiliating Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the whole narrative around the Cowboys was one of doom and gloom.

Here was a team that promised so much but when it came to the crunch they once again fell well short.

Fast forward a week and the Cowboys are heading into their bye week with a 4-2 record and an impressive (despite what Shannon Sharpe says) win against the Chargers on Monday Night Football.

Cowboys coach says star receiver is a ‘man on a mission’

There were a number of positives to take from the win against the Chargers, none more so than CeeDee Lamb. Against the Niners he only had four catches for 49 yards, but against LA the plan to involve him more in the offense was clear.

Lamb caught all seven targets for 117 yards, and his aggression in demanding the football was refreshing to see.

After the game, Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said he could tell Lamb was ‘on a mission’ from practice last week.

“It really did start in practice,” Schottenheimer said. “He was a man on a mission. It was our Thursday practice, he was on a mission. You saw that mindset, and I think there’s something to that. First couple of plays, you get him going and he just feeds off it. I love the way he plays with his hair on fire, passionate.”

Good things tend to happen when Lamb has the football

Lamb has proved time and time again that when the football is in his hands, good things tend to happen. No.88 is one of the best weapons Mike McCarthy has at his disposal; it’s up to him and Dak to find a way to get the receiver more targets.

Through six games this season, Lamb has 34 receptions off 42 targets with an 81% catch percentage. He is 11th in the NFL with 475 yards with a ridiculous efficiency; the Cowboys only have to give him more opportunities and utilize him properly and the results would speak for themselves.

For him, though, staying aggressive from the outset is the key to him having an impact on the game.

“Coming out here and being able to provide for my team and contribute to the win is probably the best thing for me,” Lamb said. “I feel like I’m definitely an impactful player, so for us to get this going early and to get me the ball early, it was very important.”

Lamb is doing all he can whenever he’s involved in the offense. He’s having a good season that could turn into a great season if only the ball is placed in his hands more often.
