Just eight days before the NFL Draft, ESPN produced an eye-opening account of the Bill Belichick offseason saga.

Belichick was labeled ‘classless’ after desiring the Cowboys’ job

Current Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy only has one year outstanding on his contract.

Therefore, Belichick is predicted to be in line for the Dallas job.

Veteran Cowboys reporter Mike Fisher believes this is a ‘classless’ act and could be telling of the ex-New England Patriots head coach.

In terms of openly speaking about another man’s job behind his back and hoping to land it.

In the report, it is suggested that two more NFC East franchises are interested in Belichick’s services.

The Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants are ready to offer their potential vacancies in 2025.

It comes as no surprise it is these teams, as on Pro Football Talk all three head coaches were the most under pressure in 2024.

Moreover, Mike Florio and Chris Simms discussed the recent ESPN revelation.

The former suggested this about the potential appointment: “This is one of those where I think it’s a practical matter, it’s gonna be done before anyone gets fired.

“It’s gonna be done behind the scenes, in complete violation of the spirit, if not the letter of the Rooney Rule. This deal is gonna be done!”

The presenter has indicated that there will be tampering behind the scenes and Belichick will have a deal agreed upon before someone is fired.

The Rooney Rule was legislated to give a fair chance to ethnic-minority coaches at any given job.

However, if Belichick were to agree a deal with a franchise before the interviewing process, this would be a violation of the rule.

Yet, Florio believes the CV of Belichick will guarantee him a job in this manner.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has mentioned Belichick during the offseason but decided to let McCarthy see out his contract.
