TV Show co-host compares NFL and NBA dynasties and explains how one defender ties Kansas City together.

Prior to the announcement of DT Chris Jones’ extension, the discussion in the community was about who the Chiefs needed to keep on the team in order to remain dominant and continue their pursuit of the three-peat.

The player’s contract extension was Kansas City’s biggest move so far this offseason.

Chris Jones, the irreplaceable component

The numbers speak for themselves. In eight seasons an 123 games played, Chris Jones has 75.5 sacks, 12 forced fumbles and three Super Bowls.

Kyle Brandt, one of the co-hosts of Good Morning Football on NFL Network, while commenting on how important Jones is to the team, compared the number 95 to Dennis Rodman, one of the icons of Chicago Bulls trio in the 90s.

“Chris Jones brings something to this team that Mahomes and Kelce have nothing to do with, that nothing on that defense has to do with.”

To round off Kansas City’s Dream Team, Brandt sees Patrick Mahomes as Michael Jordan and Travis Kelce as Scottie Pippen.

He considers Jones to be a unit that is complete on its own. “Mike and Scottie talk about it. We were a different team when he (Rodman) was just out there. He had it to him. People were worried about him.”

Defense leader

The Chiefs are making it clear that strengthening the defense is a very important part of continuing to be successful and flying high in the coming seasons.

Jones’ contract extension sealed his role as the leader of the defensive unit. He will continue to provide solidity and aggressiveness when marking his opponents. Brandt heaped praise on the style of player Jones represents not only for Kansas City, but for the league.

“This intimidation factor, the psychological factor of when you’re the quarterback going against the Chiefs, Jones is there.”

The Chiefs’ defense is young and has the privilege of having Chris Jones as an example for his teammates and also for the newcomers.
