Chad Ochocinco says Chiefs two new weapons simply don’t compare to the one they lost

In 2023, the Kansas City Chiefs had a tough time with their receiving corps.

Patrick Mahomes, whose personal trademark is deep throws downfield, failed to showcase his ability last season.

Also, the wide receivers’ drops were the highest in the league over the past year.

In the Draft, the organisation went to great lengths to select offensive players capable of bringing life to the end zone by catching great passes.

Mahomes predicts a 2024 with lots of long throws

In an appearance on the PatMcAfee show last week, Mahomes spoke about having good expectations for the offensive squad.

The quarterback believes that the team is being moulded to be able to return to a more threatening version in terms of profundity: “I think this year we’re going to have a team that’s built to throw the ball deep,”

“Coach [Andy] Reid’s been preaching it all offseason, we’re going to get back to throwing the deep ball. I have to be smart when we do that, but at the same time I want to be that explosive offense that we’ve seen in the past.” added.

The Chiefs’ speedy new reinforcements

Kansas City did a respectable job in the offseason.

The franchise brought in Hollywood Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy, two players who are at different points in their careers but have one thing in common: they’re very fast.

KC can still count on Travis Kelce, a lethal weapon but at the same time an ageing talent. That’s why the Chiefs needed to rejuvenate and inject speed into their air game.

The team also made a surprising move by signing a Welsh rugby league player. It’s a different gamble and one that could be worthwhile.

Chad Ochocinco has doubts about the Chiefs’ deep plays in 2024

On the recent edition of the Nightcap show, Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco discussed the possibility of Pat Mahomes taking the Chiefs to the three-peat in 2024.

Ochocinco revealed that he finds it difficult for the receiving corps to deliver the power that Tyreek Hill possessed when he was still with the team, but when it comes to the QB, anything is possible.

“I love Hollywood Brown, I love Xavier Worthy, but they’re not Tyreek Hill. Now we’re just comparing the two because of the speed. There’s so many other variables that go into play when it comes to playing the game and playing the game of receiver.”

He added: “Now, do you have all the tools and the potential to be like Tyreek? Yes, you do. But you got to be able to do it on the field. Tyreek he can run short routes, he can run intermediate routes, he can go deep, he can run the entire tree.”

The former wide receiver trusts Mahomes’ judgement

Despite the comparisons with Hill, the former NFL player commented that the new additions seem to be heading in the right direction – that’s because Mahomes is optimistic about this season.

“Now, have these two proved that they can do the same thing consistently? And for Mahomes to be saying some of the stuff that he was doing? Probably so, because they do all the small stuff so goddamn well, it’s gonna open up the offense because of the dynamic duo that they do have – Xavier worthy was the real deal at Texas,” said.

“But will you be able to transition into the NFL? And know how to use your speed when to be deceptive, when to be running full tilt? You know how to run your digs, how to run your slams rather to run your curls and be that threat like Tyreek is? There’s nothing you can do with Tyreek. There’s no way to cover him. There’s no defense to stop him.”

“Can you be exactly like that outside of just running fast in a straight line? There’s so much other stuff you have to be able to do, but I understand where Mahomes is coming from.”
