Overall, the vast majority of the media coverage about the Cowboys has been negative.
America’s Team’s lack of movement in free agency in unison with the exodus of players has caused a backlash.
Jerry Jones ‘all in’ comments have now reverted to ‘win with less’.
Additionally, Dak Prescott’s contract and future in Dallas remain unclear, which is a rare problem associated with franchise quarterbacks.
Key offensive gaps need to be filled, including offensive line and running back.
Cowboys can hold onto a positive
Despite all the problems that have swarmed the Cowboys’ name so far, there is one positive to hold on to.
Veteran Cowboys reporter, Mike Fisher, has stated there is a glimmer of hope.
On his YouTube, he reported: “In terms of nailing it. There is one thing that the Cowboys do at literally [an] extraordinary level, and I could easily argue they do better than anyone else.
“First-round picks, they nail it. Almost every time. The only exception is when they lean towards need.”
Cowboys’ last seven first-rounders
Historically, the Dallas Cowboys front office has been exceptional when it comes to the NFL Draft in the first round.
Take the last eight years for example.
2023 – Mazi Smith – has had to undergo offseason surgery but is a robust linebacker who looks set to be a dominant presence in the run defense next year.
2022- Tyler Smith is a versatile offensive lineman who was awarded with All-Pro status and a Pro Bowl in 2023.

CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons (2020 and 2021): two of the best league players in their respective positions, earning multiple Pro Bowl appearances and All-Pro labels.
In 2019, the Las Vegas Raiders owned the Cowboys first-round pick.
Leighton Vander Esch was selected in 2018, all All-Pro in his rookie year but was forced into early retirement.
Defensive End Taco Charlton was a highly-rated rookie in 2017 but fell out of favor with the Cowboys’ coaching staff.
Before that in 2016, Ezekiel Elliott was the number one pick and took the league by storm. Moreover, he finished his rookie year and 2018 as the NFL rushing yards leader.
Cowboys look to repeat history
If history repeats itself, the Cowboys could land another gem in the first round who can go on to great things.
Ultimately, that is what the Cowboys front office is banking on.
