Andy Reid has explained how he expects Tyreek Hill’s mindset to be when he faces the Chiefs at Arrowhead

There are no shortage of storylines this weekend as the Kansas City Chiefs face the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card Round.

One of the biggest will be the return of Tyreek Hill.

The former Chief will play his first game at Arrowhead since the trade to South Beach in March 2022.

Hill was already among the best at his position the trade, but he’s been out of this world for the most part since joining Miami.

He led the NFL in receiving yards this season (1,799), while posting over 1,700 yards through the air in his two campaigns with the Phins.

He has 3,509 yards receiving in Miami, more than half of what he managed in six seasons with KC (6,630).

Hill’s former coach, Andy Reid, talked about what he expects to see from Tyreek and the crowd at Arrowhead on Saturday.

“It’s going to be electric no matter who’s out there, but I know Tyreek will be fired up. But probably like our fans, he’s always fired up.”

Although Hill departed long ago, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, says there’s still plenty of mutual respect between them.

“We’re still friends in the offseason and everything like that, but when you play on the field, you’re trying to compete to win. That’s just kind of how it is. I’m excited for the opportunity for our defense. I’m excited for the opportunity for our team to go up against a great football team.”

Hill won’t be the only one on the field Saturday looking to make a statement.

A Point to Prove

Even though Hill insists he didn’t want to be traded he’ll still take a lot of pleasure out of potentially ending the Chiefs Super Bowl reign this weekend.

There might be more Chief players though who will be keen to make an impact.

Trent McDuffie was one of the draft picks for KC in the deal for Hill, and he put together a fine sophomore campaign.

In 2023, McDuffie was second in tackles for the Chiefs (80), while registering three sacks and defending seven passes.

Rashee Rice is another player who came to Kansas City in the draft via the trade for Hill.

While he had his share of drops, Rice put together an exceptional rookie campaign, with 938 receiving yards and seven scores.

While he fell just short of the Chiefs rookie receiving record, he still finished second on the Chiefs for receiving yards.

The Dolphins were the top offensive unit in 2023 (401.3 yards per game), while KC held that honor a season ago (413.6 yards per game).

Kansas City won the Super Bowl without Hill last season and looked pretty good offensively, minus the speedster, though Tyreek will argue they didn’t have to face him come playoff time.

L’Jarius Sneed held him to just eight catches for 62 yards in Frankfurt earlier this season.

At the end of the day, though, your playoff performances are what we remember most.

Therefore, there shouldn’t be a lack of motivation from Hill or those who came to KC.
