If there’s one NFL team out there and perhaps a major sports franchise that has soared to unprecedented heights this year, it might be the Kansas City Chiefs.
It’s not as if before this season, sports fans didn’t know the names Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Andy Reid and co, but 2023 has been a particularly successful year for marketing the Chiefs.
Of course, there’s the obvious analogy that the newest Chiefs supporter, Taylor Swift, is the reason for their surge in popularity and the numbers back that up.
In the three Chiefs games the Grammy Award winner attended, ratings have been off the charts
Further to that point, Kansas City’s previous game against the Denver Broncos saw Thursday Night Football’s rating reach unforeseen numbers like never before, largely thanks to Swift’s presence.
Just a couple of nights later, Kelce made a surprise cameo appearance on Saturday Night Live, with Swift introducing the musical guest so they’re stardom clearly isn’t fading.

Soaring
Being a professional athlete in a sport which basically occupies a day of the week, you are guaranteed to garner a lot of attention no matter how good you or your team is.
Kansas City have been in the spotlight and will usually get the big prime-time spots ever since Mahomes and Kelce burst onto the scene and for a good reason.
Currently, the Chiefs are one of the hottest commodities in sports, and the marquee players have been raking it in financially with endorsements.
Kelce currently represents Pfizer, Experian, State Farm, DirecTV, Campbell’s Chunky Soup and Bud Light in commercial campaigns.
Meanwhile, he’s co-hosting a podcast with his brother Jason called “New Heights”, which ironically has soared to those levels and perhaps even greater, with over 1.5 million followers on Instagram and over 1 million subscribers on YouTube.
Not to be outdone, Mahomes has done pretty well for himself in that area, as the league MVP has done TV spots for State Farm and Subway, with appearances from Kelce and coach Andy Reid.
Chris Jones, meanwhile, has also gotten into the act, appearing on DIRECTV alongside Travis Kelce.
Now past NFL teams have also risen to stardom, let’s not forget the 1985 Chicago Bears, who went 15-1 that year, winning the title and famously or infamously putting out the Super Bowl Shuffle.
That team’s stardom, though, closed quickly as that roster never returned to the big game.
What Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Bill Belichick, and co did in New England will never be forgotten and changed the game, but how much attention did they receive outside of the sporting landscape?
Perhaps the closest sports team that can rival what the Chiefs are doing right now, both on and off the field, is the Chicago Bulls of the 90s.
Michael Jordan and his team not only won six NBA championships on the court but off it, they were public icons, led by Jordan and his Nike brand shoes.
KC may be looking at creating a championship dynasty that can rival the Bulls and Patriots, but with all the attention on them, they’ve already created an American dynasty.
