Taylor Swift may be bringing the best out of Travis Kelce

The reported budding romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is showing no signs of slowing down.

On Sunday, the pop star was in the stands to watch the Chiefs tight end display another monstrous performance, with Kelce and Mahomes continuing to make their case as perhaps the greatest 1-2 punch in NFL history.

Swift has become a mainstay at Chiefs games at Arrowhead, and she was on hand for their sixth successive victory of the season when they defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 31-17.

The Swift Effect

Traditionally, when professional athletes are in the spotlight as much as Kelce has been this season, we tend to see a drop-off in their production.

In the case of the Chiefs Pro Bowl tight end, having Swift in the stands seems to add a little more fuel to his fire.

So far, during the 2023 season, Swift has been in attendance for four of Kelce’s games, all of which were victories for Kansas City, with three of her appearances coming at Arrowhead.

To no surprise, Kelce has been the primary target for Patrick Mahomes in each of those contests, and he’s put up some spectacular numbers.

Kelce debuted for Swift against the Chicago Bears in Week Three, making seven catches for 69 yards and a touchdown.

A week later, Kelce had six catches for 60 yards with Swift watching, averaging 10 yards per grab, and things have only gotten better for him since then.

Even though the offense was inconsistent in their Thursday Night Football triumph versus the Denver Broncos (19-8), Kelce put on a show for the Swifties with nine catches for 124 yards.

Against the Chargers on Sunday though Kelce showed he’s got a lot left in the tank, putting together his best statistical performance of the year, with a dozen catches for 179 yards and one score.

The 432 yards through the air that Kelce has accumulated in four appearances under the watchful eyes of Swift are over 100 more than the next-highest Chiefs pass catcher throughout the entire season so far (305 for Rashee Rice).

The numbers indicate that Kelce performs well when Swift is present, but what about the games that she’s not attended?

Kelce missed the opening game of the season, which they lost to the Detroit Lions (21-20), and was held in check by the Jacksonville Jaguars the following week, with only four receptions for 26 yards, lower than virtually every game he played in 2022.

A few weeks later with Swift absent in Minnesota, the Vikings held the tight end to just 6.7 yards per catch, though Kelce did find the end zone once and caught 10 passes despite being hobbled.

Not only does Kelce seem to get better each week that Swift is in the stands, but offensively, the Chiefs seem to be improving every time she is present, with KC having their best offensive outing of the year against the Chargers with 483 total yards including 415 through the air.

If Swift ever gets tired of making hit songs, she may have a future as a travelling fan for the Kansas City Chiefs.
