Hollywood Brown to Kansas City Chiefs would be a perfect match

As we inch a little close to the trade deadline on Halloween, reports are linking Marquise Brown to Kansas City.

The Arizona Cardinals wide receiver has drawn double-digits in targets in four of his last five games and could be on the market sooner rather than later. CBS Sports reports he could become an option for the Chiefs.

Heading into Week Seven with a record of 1-5, it seems the Cardinals are on the sellers’ market ahead of the trade deadline this year with the man nicknamed “Hollywood” perhaps their most prized possession.

Adding Experience

At 26-year-old Brown still has a lot to give, while he is clearly the best receiver Arizona’s got right now, leading them in receiving yards after six weeks (334).

Since breaking into the league with the Baltimore Ravens, his attributes have proven invaluable.

His devastating top-end speed, solid hands and vertical leap make him a towering presence for opposing cornerbacks.

In just over four seasons in the NFL, Brown has been targeted over 50 times each year, while collecting 700+ yards through the air in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

No doubt he is an asset for Jonathan Gannon’s crew in the desert, but given that Arizona has parted ways with Isiah Simmons, Colt McCoy and DeAndre Hopkins, it’s clear not even a figure like Hollywood Brown would be safe.

Those previous moves made by Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort and the team’s record suggest they might be open for business between now and October 31st.

Brown is currently playing out the final year of his rookie contract before he becomes a free agent in 2024, where he’s likely to earn a big payday somewhere.

Kansas City is just one of the many teams linked with him as the trade deadline gets closer, and he could add a lot to the Chiefs roster.

Even with the recent acquisition of Mecole Hardman, there could still be room for Brown on a Chiefs’ roster looking to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

During his NFL career, Brown has lined up primarily on the outside, but he also possesses some slot versatility.

The latter is where he might fit with what Matt Nagy is running in Kansas City, as his presence would take a lot of pressure off the shoulders of Skyy Moore.

In addition to that, Brown would probably be KC’s best wideout at separating man coverage, while his size makes him more of a speed threat compared to the many lengthy receivers currently on the roster.

Arizona initially gave up a first-round pick to acquire Brown, but a second or third-rounder seems a more likely scenario should a deal with the Chiefs materialize.

We should also point out that given Brown’s experience, versatility and dependability, he would quickly, you’d think, have the trust of Patrick Mahomes, something which the youngsters at the position seemingly still have to earn.

Finally, Brown is a valuable receiver when it comes to moving the chains as the man born in Hollywood, Florida, has averaged over 10 yards per catch in each of his NFL seasons.
