Despite coming off a narrow defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles last week, the Dallas Cowboys’ defense has kept them in the playoff picture.
They currently rank third in the league regarding yards-allowed-per-game (288.0), conceding below 300 total in seven of nine games.
That includes their loss against the Eagles last weekend, a team who are the #3 offense in the NFL.
There is a reasonable argument to be made that the Cowboys have played against some weak offensive units, and those who say that would be right to a degree.
The York Giants, New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots are all in the bottom 10 regarding offensive yards per game, and Dallas won three of those games handily.
In their previous four contests, the Dallas Cowboys have faced some stronger offensive units and fared well though, with the exception being their stinker in San Francisco.
Dallas’ schedule over the next few weeks would seem on paper to be pretty straightforward, and give them a chance to solidify their place as a playoff team.
Time for the Cowboys to Bring the Heat
In 2022, the Dallas Cowboys were third in the NFL for sacks (54), though midway through this season, they’ve slid down to 17th (21).
They’ve registered three or more sacks on four occasions this year, getting to Jalen Hurts three times last weekend.
While it’s not as if Dan Quinn’s group have underperformed given that they’ve not been shut out in that department this year, though when you look at the talent on this roster, it could be said the D-line have underperformed at times.
When you consider the speed and power of Micah Parsons combined with Demarcus Lawrence and what Markquese Bell has brought to the table, it’s safe to say the expectations for the Cowboys to wins those battles in the trenches are high.

There’s a good chance that we could see the Cowboys rise up the stats sheet regarding sacks in the coming weeks.
That’s because they’ll be playing some weaker opponents in the coming weeks.
On Sunday, Dallas will host the New York Giants, who they destroyed in Week One of the season 40-0, with the Cowboys picking up seven sacks on that day.
The Giants are missing Daniel Jones for the rest of the year and will likely turn to unknown Tommy Devito behind centre.
After that, Dallas face the Carolina Panthers, a team with just one victory thus far.
They will then host another team with a losing record next, the Washington Commanders.
Those three teams have allowed a combined total of 122 sacks at the season’s midway point.
The Giants and Commanders have given up the most and second-most thus far, with 49 and 44 respectively, while Carolina is sixth with 29.
Given how solid the Cowboys have been in pass coverage, you’d think Quinn will add plenty of blitz packages in the upcoming games.
It’s always a risk to bring added pressure, but neither of those three teams has a deep threat or a strong quarterback who’s even close to elite status.
