Riding a two-game winning streak, the Cowboys are in Philadelphia on Sunday to face the Eagles in a matchup which could be vastly important in the NFC East.
With a victory, Dallas would be within a victory of the Eagles for first with a game in hand.
The Cowboys won the previous encounter against Philly on Christmas Eve in 2022 (40-34) while winning one of two games in the City of Brotherly Love that same season.
Takeaways crucial for Cowboys
The reigning NFC champions are off to another hot start at 7-1, and offensively, they are third in the league regarding yards-per-game (387.4).
There are plenty of big threats on the Eagles’ offense, including the passing and running ability of Jalen Hurts, who has the second-leading receiver for yards at his disposal in AJ Brown (939), plus a highly productive running game anchored by D’Andre Swift, who is fourth in rushing yards (571).
On the other side though, the Cowboys have been pretty solid defensively, allowing the third-fewest yards-per-game average (287.4)
You might not know it, given Hurts was an MVP finalist last year and the Eagles’ current record, but they have been littered with mistakes on offense in 2023.
The Philly offense has turned the ball over 13 in eight games and has only had one turnover-free game all season.
Even more surprising is the fact that Hurts has 11 of those turnovers, the second-highest mark in the NFL behind Atlanta’s Desmond Ridder (12).
For as much criticism as Dak Prescott has gotten from the critics in 2023, he’s not been nearly that careless with the ball, with only five turnovers, three in that disastrous loss to San Francisco.
The Eagles offense has turned the ball over eight times in the last three games after finishing third in the NFL in turnover differential a season ago.
Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn hopes that his defense can continue their momentum from last weekend into a big outing in Philly.
“Just what I saw (vs. Rams), it was a lot of really cool complementary ball being played,” Quinn said. “I saw an interception, then I think there might have been a three and out, and there was a blocked punt. That’s when the big waves hit. So, when you get those big waves that can hit, that’s when (you) pedal downhill and go harder; when we get those moments to do that, I think that’s big.”

In their previous two meetings versus Philly, Dallas have created four turnovers, though they have only come up with three in their last three games this season.
Quinn, however, says he’s confident they’ll be able to create a few more takeaways this weekend.
“The guys are digging, they’re going to come,” Quinn said. “We haven’t had a ton of them over the last couple games, so I am anticipating that changing just based on our mindset. If we stay true to how we attack it and to where we go, they’ll fall our way.”
The Cowboys are fourth in the NFL regarding turnover differential (+6) while scoring over 40 points in two of their previous three encounters against the Eagles.
