The Dallas Cowboys’ offseason has raised numerous questions but one of those may be answered by Tyler Smith.

During the offseason, America’s Team have lost key pieces of their offensive line.

Center Tyler Biadasz has joined the Cowboys’ older defensive coordinator Dan Quinn in Washington.

‘Ring of Honor’ caliber player Tyron Smith’s chapter is closed with the Dallas Cowboys after 13 seasons.

Furthermore, the former Cowboy signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets and gave an emotional farewell on social media.

Tyrone Smith’s departure sparks debate for Tyler Smith

Tyler Smith was drafted in 2022 and was labeled as the left tackle of the future.

When Tyron Smith suffered a severe hamstring – which required surgery – the rookie was moved to his projected position.

In his first season, the 23-year-old started 16 games at left tackle and one at left guard.

When the two-time First-Team All-Pro returned in 2023, the sophomore was moved back to left guard.

Tyler Smith finished the season at left guard as a Second-Team All-Pro and was complemented with a Pro Bowl selection.

Moreover, the veteran’s departure has now sparked debate, do they keep Tyler Smith at left guard or move him back to left tackle?

Tyler Smith says fans should ‘stay ready for anything’

The offensive lineman spoke on the 8th Round Podcast with Brock Hoffman.

When asked by a fan which position he would like to play next season, tackle or guard, Smith replied: “I’m coming off a really good year at guard. I’m feeling really comfortable at guard. I kind of like how the continuity is right now.

“Like you already prefaced this, I’m willing to do whatever it takes y’all, and I’m able to do whatever it takes. So we’ll see what the future holds, you know. Obviously, stay ready for anything, but for right now, I’m the starting left guard of the Dallas Cowboys, y’all.”

Smith has settled the debate on a personal note, he wants to play guard as he has just played at an exceptional level there.

Smith’s best position will affect the Cowboys’ NFL Draft

Behind the scenes, discussions will have been taking place where they plan to play the 3rd year starter.

Ultimately, wherever he is set to play, this will dictate who the Cowboys select in the NFL Draft.

The Cowboys staff must join together and make the correct decision of where to play Smith.

To be so enthusiastic about playing guard, it would feel wrong to move him back to left tackle.
