After passing up the running back position in the Draft, the Dallas Cowboys still need a player to fill out the backfield.
As much as Ezekiel Elliott has returned and is a well-established veteran in the locker room, the franchise should look for someone who can deliver superior results on the field.
What’s more, the wide receiver unit hasn’t been the most aggressive this year. It’s obvious that having CeeDee Lamb in the squad elevates the group on many levels, but he’s incapable of sustaining the passing game on his own. Not to mention that Lamb is still waiting to be paid.
There are still a few offensive options left in free agency, but that doesn’t mean the organisation will go for it.

RB Cam Akers
In his first years in the NFL, he played for the Los Angeles Rams and produced solid numbers – 625 rushing yards and two touchdowns in his rookie season.
He tore his Achilles in his sophomore year, but returned in 2022 and did very well, scoring seven TDs and running for 786 yards.
He was traded to the Minnesota Vikings in 2023 and suffered yet another season-ending Achilles injury.
So at this point, he could be a cost-effective option for the Cowboys. The franchise could eventually offer rewards if he doesn’t get hurt and plays x-percentage of snaps.
WR Tyler Boyd
A wide receiver who wasn’t very hyped, but recorded positive numbers and contributed to the Cincinnati Bengals. Over eight seasons, he caught 513 passes for 6,000 yards.
Should he be targeted by Dak Prescott, he could be a reliable piece and try to become the roster’s WR2.
Taking into consideration that Dallas doesn’t have a lot of money on the salary cap, he could also be an affordable name for a possible one-year contract.
It’s still a little difficult to visualise what America’s Team wants for 2024, even more so after what has been said and done internally within the organisation.
