The repercussions of Harrison Butker’s speech don’t seem to be coming to an end.
Recently, the Kansas City Chiefs kicker gave a controversial speech at his graduation ceremony at Benedictine College.
In his speech, he addressed the position of women in society and gave his opinion on the role they should play.
The video went viral and since then, fans, teammates, coaches and even the NFL have spoken out about the player’s statement.

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes react to Butker’s speech
At last Thursday’s press conference, Andy Reid was asked what he thought of the content of the kicker’s speech.
“I didn’t talk to him about [the speech]. We’re a microcosm of life here, from different areas, different religions, races and so we all get along and we all respect each other’s opinions. We respect everybody to have a voice, that’s the great thing about America.” said without extending himself.
Patrick Mahomes must have expected to have to make his comments at some point. The quarterback said that Butker is a guy who cares a lot about his family and the people around him.
The QB also added that there are things his teammate has said that he doesn’t agree with, but that it’s okay for people to have different opinions.
The NFL was the first to condemn the player’s speech, stating that his opinions are not in line with the league’s guidelines and what they believe in.
Travis Kelce’s opinion was a topic in New Heights
In the recent episode of the New Heights podcast, Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce discussed the most talked-about issues in the NFL over the last week.
And, of course, Butker’s commencement speech at his graduation ceremony wouldn’t go unnoticed.
Kelce didn’t mince his words when commenting on the controversy: “I cherish him as a teammate. I think Pat said it best: He is every bit of a great person & a great teammate.”
“He’s treated friends and family that I’ve introduced to him with nothing but respect and kindness, and that’s how he treats everyone.”
The tight end, despite defending his friend, made it clear that he doesn’t agree with almost everything Butker preached in his statement: “When it comes down to his views and what he said at the commencement speech… I can’t say I agree with the majority of it or just about any of it outside of just him loving his family and his kids,”
“I don’t think that I should judge him by his views, especially his religious views of how to go about life. That’s just not who I am.” added.
