It looks like we’ll be seeing a couple of key figures with the Kansas City Chiefs back for another season.
While there wasn’t anything official, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid strongly hinted they’d return for the 2024 campaign.
There had been widespread speculation that 2023 might be the last dance for both.
Earlier this season, the 34-year-old Kelce admitted he thinks about retirement often, having undergone 10 surgeries throughout his career.
Andy Reid, meanwhile, hasn’t gone through the same kind of physical pain, but he’s getting to the age where the dreaded “retirement” word inevitably comes up.

The 65-year-old has been a head coach in this league since 1999, winning the ultimate prize two times with the Chiefs.
Based on what Kelce and Reid had to say ahead of Saturday’s game, it doesn’t appear that either is ready to ride off into the sunset just yet.
Hungry for More
After what’s been a challenging regular season for Kelce and the offense, plus everything the tight end is going on in his personal life, logically, one may think he’ll retire sooner rather than later.
Kelce, though, says he still has plenty of motivation to keep playing.
“I have no reason to stop playing football,” says Kelce.
“I love (playing with the Chiefs),” he adds.
“We still have success, come in with the right mindset, and I just love the challenge that it gives me every single day to try and be at my best.”
“I’ve been fortunate to do a few things outside of the sports world that I’ve been enjoying doing, like getting on camera.”
Kelce previously appeared on Saturday Night Live this season and has been in numerous commercials, while his romance with Taylor Swift is seemingly talked about every minute of every day.
That’s a lot of attention for one to handle, but for Kelce, he is still full of joy.
“The [‘Saturday Night Live’] stuff kind of opened up a new happiness and maybe a new career path for me.”
“But it’s funny for me to even say that at this point in my career. I think it’s so much further down the road than it is right now.”
“Not That Old“
Throughout his entire NFL career, Kelce’s known just one head coach, and it seems like that familiar face could be joining him next season.
In 2020, Reid signed a six-year extension with the Chiefs for $60 million.
He turns 66 in March but says retiring hasn’t crossed his mind.
“I figured that would come up … because I’m old,” says Reid. “But I’m not that old.”
Reid’s never had a losing season since joining the Chiefs, while Kelce’s had a 1,000-yard receiving campaign in seven of the past eight seasons.
Since joining forces, the two have been principal players in this team’s success.
Their reign as Super Bowl champions is on the line Saturday when they face the Miami Dolphins at Arrowhead Stadium.
It’s their first Wild Card encounter since 2013.
Ironically 2013 was the first season for Reid and Kelce together in Kansas City.
