The story of Tony Romo is one of perseverance and determination, which has finally been released after four years of production.

On Friday, “Now or Never: A Tony Romo Story” premiered on digital courtesy of ZGN Productions.

It’s the true story of Romo, a kid playing high school football in Burlington, Wisconsin, who went from going undrafted in the NFL to becoming one of the most prolific quarterbacks in Dallas Cowboys history.

Through the eyes of those closest to the former Cowboys #9, this movie the kind of impact Romo had on the league and those closest to him.

Earning his Place

From 1999-2002, Romo played NCAA Division 1-AA Football at Eastern Illinois University, where he was named the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Player of the Year in three consecutive seasons while also being a part of the first-team All-OVC on three occasions.

Despite finishing his college tenure with 85 touchdown passes and 8,212 passing yards, his performances were not enough to hear his name called during the 2003 NFL Draft.

While he was never drafted, Romo did receive a late invitation to the NFL combine, and throughout the draft, Sean Payton, a Cowboys assistant coach at that time, assured him that Dallas was interested in him.

Dallas would end up signing him after the draft closed, with Romo being a third-stringer for most of his first two NFL campaigns.

Slowly but surely, Romo kept climbing up the quarterbacking depth chart, coming in for Drew Bledsoe in the second half of an October encounter with the New York Giants.

Despite tossing three interceptions on that occasion, then Cowboys coach Bill Parcels named Romo the starting QB the next week against the Carolina Panthers, where he led them to a victory, helping them qualify for the postseason that year.

The San Diego-born player would remain the starting QB in Dallas until 2016 and was named to the Pro Bowl four times along the way.

His best season in the NFL came in 2014 when Romo was the passer rating leader and the completion percentage leader in a year that the Cowboys finished 12-3 in the regular season.

That season for Dallas ended controversially in the Divisional Round when a Dez Bryant catch was ruled incomplete, and they wound up losing to the Green Bay Packers.

Romo completed over 60% of his passes in each of his seasons in the NFL, averaging over seven yards per throw every year.

In 2016, Romo was unable to start the regular season because of a compression fracture to the L1 vertebrae in his back during the pre-season.

That opened the door for Dak Prescott, who guided the Cowboys to an eight-game winning streak in Romo’s absence and was named the starting quarterback, a role he’s maintained to this day.

Romo announced his retirement in April 2017 and has served as a lead color analyst alongside Jim Nantz for the NFL on CBS ever since.

To this day, Romo still owns the Dallas Cowboys record for career passing yards (34,183) and passing touchdowns (248).
