Three free agents Dallas Cowboys should sign, including former Heisman Trophy winning Running Back

The offseason for the Dallas Cowboys is in full swing, and plenty of decisions need to be made.

Fortunately, Jerry Jones has until March 13 before free agency begins to figure out who should stay and go and who they could add to improve this team in 2024.

Given how their season ended many will want the Cowboys to swing for fences and make a splash in free agency.

Here are three players who could address a growing need for this team.

Derrick Henry

A former Heisman Trophy winner and two-time rushing leader, Derrick Henry, will be a hot commodity when free agency opens.

For years in Tennessee, he was the engine that kept their offense going.

Henry is versatile and capable of handling a massive workload.

Having four different offensive coordinators with the Titans since 2018, Henry’s used to change and needing to adapt.

He’s got back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons with double-digits in touchdowns in six successive campaigns.

The Tony Pollard gamble last season didn’t pay off as he averaged 4.0 yards-per-carry.

Mike McCarthy needs a back that he can count on in numerous situations.

That’s not to say Pollard is expendable, as there’s a possibility he can take on a limited role, but I don’t think he can handle the workload needed to be a starter, and Henry can.

Devin White

Not only is the Bucs linebacker a Super Bowl champion, but he occupies a position where the Cowboys need help.

Leighton Vander Esch missed most of 2023 with an injury, and it seems like Dallas will move on from him.

At times, Markquese Bell did a nice job as a nickel linebacker, though I think his talents are better suited at other positions, such as safety.

There aren’t a lot of prospects at the linebacking position heading into the draft, so White would be a good addition.

The Cowboys have struggled to contain the run all season long, and White has shown that he can shoot gaps quickly, make plays out of the backfield and track bouncing runners.

If Jones wants to make that signing, he’ll likely have to dump some players to free up salary cap space or restructure current contracts.

White’s current market value, according to Spotrac, is $10.7 million.

Mekhi Becton

At 33-years-old Tyron Smith isn’t getting any younger and making the Second-team All-Pro this year means there’s still a market for him.

Like Vander Esch, injuries are catching up with Smith, but Mekhi Becton still has plenty of years ahead of him.

The New York Jets offensive tackle is only 24, and is injury prone, though with versatility and age, I think some of his injuries might not be recurring.

Bechton has a rare seven-foot wingspan, and is capable of washing away defenders on lateral blocks.

His inside-out pass sets are well-balanced and smooth.

Having such long arms also allows him to make emergency recoveries if needed against some speedy rush ends.

Bechton will cost the Jets $13 million against the cap in 2024, per Spotrac, so Jones may need to restructure some deals to bring him in.
