The Kansas City Chiefs players who could make the Pro Bowl for the first time

It’s that time of year when you can have your say on who makes the NFL Pro Bowl.

For the first time in three years, the festivities will occur in Orlando with open fan voting.

Voting for the showcase event on February 4 will run until December 24, with 44 players taken in each conference based on selections made by NFL fans, coaches and players.

A season ago, seven members of the Kansas City Chiefs were selected for the game, including Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Thuney and Chris Jones.

Each of them could very well make the Pro Bowl again this season, but there are plenty of other Chief players who deserve consideration.

Here’s a breakdown of some of those Chief names that have never been to the Pro Bowl but deserve to be in the running.

George Karlaftis

The second-year defensive end is putting together a stellar sophomore campaign, leading the Chiefs in sacks with eight.

Karlaftis is tied with the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year, Nick Bosa, in sacks this year, in what is shaping up to be a sensational sophomore campaign for the Greek-born defensive stud.

To this point of the season, he’s had multiple QB pressures in virtually every game, including 47 before mid-November.

L’Jarius Sneed

Kansas City’s corners have been outstanding in 2023 and are a significant reason why they’re just a game behind the Baltimore Ravens for the top seed in the AFC (8-3).

In his fourth NFL season, L’Jarius Sneed is making his presence felt in the cover game, allowing just five yards-per-target without a touchdown conceded, per Pro Football Reference.

Trent McDuffie

If there’s one Chief who’s yet to make the Pro Bowl that should be a slam-dunk selection right now, it’s Trent McDuffie.

The 23-year-old is in line for an All-Pro selection and, like Sneed, is an excellent tackler, sticky in coverage and highly versatile.

McDuffie and Khalil Mack lead the league in forced fumbles (five), registering 45 solo tackles and conceding just one score through the air.

Harrison Butker

The Georgia Tech product who booted the game-winning field goals in the AFC Championship and Super Bowl a year ago is picking up where he left off.

In a season where the Chiefs’ offense has been anything but a sure thing regarding scoring, Butker has been automatic when trotting onto the field from anywhere.

He’s one of the few NFL kickers that’s made an attempt of over 60 yards this season and is one of only two in 2023 with over 10 attempts to boast a 100% field goal percentage, while Brandon Aubrey is the other.

Trey Smith

Outside of Jawaan Taylor, the Chiefs’ pass protection has been tremendous in 2023.

Trey Smith is turning into a great blocker along the line of scrimmage, without a sack allowed in 2023 in 744 snaps, the longest active streak in the NFL.

Drue Tranquill

The fifth NFL season for Drue Tranquill and first as a Chief is shaping up to be his best yet.

He leads the Chiefs in tackles (71), including six for losses, plus he has 3.5 sacks.

Tranquill needs to improve in pass coverage, conceding a completion percentage of 85.2, but has only allowed 50 yards total on completions.
