Stephen A Smith expertly shuts down Lamar Jackson win Super Bowl on Chiefs claims, he’s spot on

The Kansas City Chiefs have three very real Super Bowl rings in recent seasons and other quarterbacks and coaches can only dream of this recent success.

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are the two most important figures in the Kansas City Chiefs recent success, a near unstoppable combination.

But that doesn’t stop outsiders theorising whether you could swap one of them out, and enjoy similar success.

This debate began when Chad Ochocinco declared he believed Lamar Jackson would be able to switch over, hypothetically, and win Super Bowls on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Shannon Sharpe promptly shot this down, during their Nightcap show, although did not extend into great detail why.

This is where Stephen A Smith came in, picking up the debate on First Take, to talk up the strength of the partnership of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.

AFC Championship - Kansas City Chiefs v Baltimore Ravens

Patrick Mahomes delivers

Patrick Mahomes has won three Super Bowls, and knocked Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens out of the playoffs in the AFC Championship game, on the road, earlier this year.

And that’s the difference, according to Stephen A Smith – when the big moments require it, Mahomes is always there. Lamar is yet to demonstrate the same thing.

Speaking on First Take, Stephen A Smith explained: “You could have won games, you could have been very successful. I believe, Andy Reid would have been just as successful with Lamar Jackson as John Harbaugh has been, but I have not seen Lamar Jackson in that moment.

“Because really, when we’re talking about Super Bowl championships, in order for you to acquire it, it comes down to moments.

“That is something we’re still waiting for, when it comes to Lamar Jackson.

“I know he’s great. I know he’s phenomenal. And I know he would have won far more than he lost with Andy Reid, I get it.

“But Super Bowl is the operative words here, and when it comes to that, it takes moments, and we are still waiting for those moments when it comes to Lamar Jackson, that is the bottom line.”

His comments are spot on. Theorising over what Quarterback A, or Quarterback B, could do in place of Patrick Mahomes, is a tad disrespectful to what he has achieved.

In those big ‘moments’, Mahomes always steps up. Against Buffalo, against Baltimore, or against The 49ers in overtime. Always.

Bear this in mind: Any quarterback theoretically playing on the Chiefs – would have to go up against Mahomes representing another team.

And we have all learned by now – never bet against Mahomes.
