The offseason is officially in full swing and the so-called ‘legal tampering’ window is wide open for franchises to play around in.

The Dallas Cowboys enter the free agency market with a $8.8 million cap space total as reported by Spotrac.

Kendricks linked to Cowboys

The season trajectory can be set in motion just through a franchise’s activity in the open market.

As they say, Super Bowls cannot be one in March but they can be lost.

Jerry Jones has been quoted saying stopping the run is an area America’s Team will be addressing in the offseason.

Rumors have circulated that the Dallas Cowboys could make a move for free agent Eric Kendricks.

The former All-Pro linebacker is a large presence behind the defensive line and will add physicality to the run defense.

Moreover, Kendricks has been released by the Los Angeles Chargers after signing a two-year deal in 2023.

He started all games bar three and recorded the second-most tackles in his career in 2023.

More importantly, he has worked under the guidance of now-Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

Should Zimmer reunite with former player

The former Minnesota Vikings’ head coach worked with Kendricks until his departure in 2022.

Zimmer has been given a one-year deal as DC on Mike McCarthy’s coaching staff.

Could the 67-year-old turn to a familiar face to reenergize his run defense?

When Zimmer was fired in 2022, the linebacker said the team lacked ‘a culture where communication is put at the forefront’.

Adding to his comments saying: “I don’t think a fear-based organization is the way to go.”

In the newly appointed Cowboys DC’s interview, he described his reputation as being ‘a jerk’.

On the contrary, Zimmer claimed to have been a recipient of multiple ‘thank you’ messages from former players. Could Kendricks have been one?

According to Mike Fisher, Kendricks would slot into the Mike Zimmer system easily and it would be a smart fit.

No nonsense

Zimmer, through various comments, seems to be a coach who will build a ruthless no-filter culture.

Additionally, he will tell it straight to your face, facts don’t care about your feelings.

The Cowboys have come under scrutiny about their culture, and Zimmer could change it.

Should Kendricks come along for the ride and link up with his former boss?
