Super Bowl starter Patrick Mahomes brought up a former Dallas Cowboys quarterback while discussing his idols.
For most Dallas Cowboys fans, the season finished the moment the team were eliminated in Wildcard Weekend at home to Green Bay.
Already, it’s eyes on next season – even if the prospect of Mike McCarthy returning as head coach is not the preferred outcome.
Meanwhile, the season is continuing, with the Super Bowl taking place this weekend between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.

Patrick Mahomes idolised Tony Romo
This week has been full of build-up towards Sunday’s big game, with the stars, and lesser known players of both teams all inundated with questions from media from around the world.
One interesting nugget for Cowboys fans came from a question for Patrick Mahomes, via High Point Sports.
Mahomes was asked which quarterbacks he enjoyed watching when he was growing up.
He named four. Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, and Tony Romo.
Favre, Rodgers, and Stafford all won the Super Bowl. Romo is the only one who did not, and yet, that makes Mahomes’ praise even more notable, showing how he rated the former Dallas Cowboys star purely on his talent alone.
Romo is one of the most under rated quarterbacks of his generation, often derided for failing to win the big one.
Mahomes comments show the respect Romo garnered through his on-field career, before he moved into the announcers’ booth.
Meanwhile, Mahomes will be inspiring the next generation as he looks to win his third Super Bowl ring this weekend.
