Like many athletes, the Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback has a unique ritual he goes through before each game.
It’s not unusual to see or hear about some rather bizarre superstitions in sports.
After all, who wants to mess with a good thing?
The Chiefs had a bye this past week, and while Travis Kelce went to Argentina to visit Taylor Swift, his offensive partner in crime, Patrick Mahomes, was also in the spotlight.
Mahomes appeared on the Monday Night Football ManningCast, where former NFL QBs Peyton and Eli Manning break down a game live with special guests.
During the telecast between the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos, Mahomes revealed his unique superstition.
Patrick’s lucky undies
Back in February, former Chiefs backup Chad Henne revealed an unknown secret about the current NFL MVP.
Henne said Patrick Mahomes has worn the same pair of red underwear for every game since his NFL career began.
“Each and every day he comes in, he does his work, his notes are written a certain way [and wears] the same pair of underwear which not a lot [of] people know,” said Henne.
Mahomes himself confirmed the news during the last Monday Night Football ManningCast.

Comparing Mahomes’ ritual to others
Through the years, NFL players have used everything possible to get a psychological edge.
It’s not much different than if one has a stroke of good fortune, they may buy a lottery ticket.
Here are some of the more unique ones I’ve heard of.
Former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher had a sweet tooth on gameday, eating chocolate chip cookies.
Emmanuel Sanders would always play Madden, while Cam Newton’s gold “MVP” shoes brought him no luck ahead of Super Bowl 50.
Perhaps the most interesting is in Jacksonville, where former defensive lineman John Henderson would get riled up by being slapped in the face.
If he continues to put up his stellar numbers, that underwear could have a special place reserved in the Hall of Fame.
