Perhaps the NFL’s two most recognizable names at the moment reached the half-century mark for touchdowns on Sunday.

From the moment Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce linked up, there’s been an instant chemistry between them, and together, they’ve made the Chiefs the most feared team to play against in the NFL.

On Sunday against the Chargers, Kansas City celebrated a sixth straight victory, and the pair of Mahomes and Kelce collected another milestone during their illustrious time together.

Mahomes Making History

On an NFL Sunday dedicated to the tight end position, it was perhaps only fitting that Travis Kelce put up his best statistical performance of the season.

Kelce caught 12 passes from Mahomes for 179 yards and a touchdown, a fitting way to celebrate National Tight Ends Day.

Near the tail end of the first half, Mahomes found Kelce for a one-yard TD, the 50th time he had found the tight end for a score.

That’s the most touchdowns by any QB-pass catcher in Chiefs history, while it also puts the two of them in some exclusive company in league history.

Together, they are now just one TD pass away from drawing even with Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham for the fourth-most TDs by a quarterback-tight end combination in NFL history

The 525 receiving yards collected by Kelce after six games this year are one more than the next two highest Chiefs receivers combined (Rashee Rice and Justin Watson).

Meanwhile, his 48 catches are four more than one more than the number of grabs made by Rashee Rice (26) and Isiah Pacheco (21) combined, the two players with the most catches after Kelce this year.

In the last two games, Kelce has made 21 catches, a mark which only Rice and Pacheco have matched or beaten on the Chiefs roster this season.

After missing their opening game through injury, the Chiefs have yet to lose a game, with Kelce leading the team in receptions in each of those six victories.

Kelce’s caught four touchdown passes from Mahomes this season, including two away from home.

Thanks to the consistency of Mahomes and Kelce, the Chiefs offense has grown a lot over the past two weeks, currently ranked second in passing yards per game (285.4) in the NFL this year.

Following another outstanding afternoon for the two Chiefs stars on Sunday, head coach Andy Reid praised them.

“I think both Kelce and Pat when they’re on the same page, that’s a challenge for any defense.”

“I know they work on it. This isn’t, like, a secret,” Reid continued. “It’s quite a tribute for those two executing the way they do.”

So far this season, Mahomes has thrown for 2,017 yards, with over a quarter of those yards going to the Chiefs #87.

Given how they’ve been linking up again this year and the production they’ve each provided of late, it would seem like only a matter of time before they set the all-time record for most TD combinations.
