Only one QB has a better passer rating than Dak Prescott this season

At this stage of the season, even the biggest Dallas Cowboys haters will have difficulty not giving their star quarterback his due.

Dak Prescott put together another exceptional outing against the Eagles on Sunday, going 29/41 for 299 yards and three touchdowns.

Only 49ers pivot Brock Purdy (116.9) has a better passer rating than Dak’s 107.5 in 2023.

Dak’s leads the league with 28 TD tosses, three more than his adversary this upcoming Sunday, Josh Allen.

Prescott’s thrown three touchdown passes in back-to-back contests, failing to toss an interception in four successive encounters.

Houston Texans rookie sensation C.J. Stroud is the only quarterback in the NFL to toss fewer picks this season than Dak’s six (five for Stroud), with Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson also throwing just six interceptions.

For Prescott, though, his impressive performances go much further than what a standard stats sheet may indicate.

Prescott Getting it Done in Traffic

Prescott has answered the bell week after week, and now the Cowboys QB has two statement victories versus Seattle and Philly on his resume.

No longer can Cowboy doubters say that Prescott and Dallas haven’t beaten a good team, while they are now the one to catch in the NFC East.

When you look deeper into what Dak managed to do on Sunday against Philly, though, it’s even more impressive.

According to Next Gen Stats, the Cowboys’ QB was at his best when targeting in-breaking routes versus the Eagles, going 9/13 for 103 yards and a pair of scores when doing so.

Meanwhile, 30.8% of Prescott’s throws were in tight windows, the most in a single game by an NFL QB this season.

When throwing in those narrow spots, your precision has to be near perfect, and Prescott had 99 yards through the air in tight windows.

That can be risky when facing cornerbacks of high quality like Darius Slay and James Bradberry, but it also shows the kind of confidence that Prescott is playing with.

Pulling Ahead?

If Prescott isn’t one of the first three names on the minds of MVP voters right now, then something is seriously wrong.

His passing numbers, lack of turnovers, and touchdown throws speak for themselves.

Furthermore, he’s done it against good teams and bad, while almost always performing brilliantly.

When you play teams as poor as the Giants and the Pats, everyone expects you to rout them, and Prescott and Dallas have.

Then you play formidable opponents with everyone looking for you to make a statement, and you do, minus of course the defeat to San Francisco.

Add to that the degree of difficulty with which Prescott is making some of these throws, along with his consistency, and it’s hard not to give the man props.

Now, he’s got to do it in the playoffs to silence critics, but the MVP trophy is a regular-season award, one that Dak should be in the mix for if not the frontrunner at this stage.

Further to that, when you consider the word “valuable”, is there another Cowboy player who’s been as consistently valuable to America’s Team besides Dak?
