The Kansas City Chiefs found themselves on the wrong end of a sales-tax vote on Tuesday and now ponder their future.

Clark Hunt will now deliberate the next steps for the franchise after their hoped plan has fallen through.

The Chiefs were enthusiastic that the Jackson County residents would be in favor of the vote to cement their legacy at Arrowhead.

Furthermore, the plan was to increase the sales tax to fund the redevelopment of the public stadium.

Included within the plan was to build a new stadium for the Kansas City Royals baseball team.

Vote rejected and Chiefs future remains unclear

Nonetheless, the residents confidently rejected the proposal by a large majority.

Now, the next approach and steps will be paramount as to where the future of the Chiefs lies.

Executive Mark Donovan said that all the options were on the table for the Chiefs before the ballot.

In the wake of the vote, the Kansas City Mayor has taken to X to share what his future vision entails.

On social media, Quinton Lucas posted: “I hear rumors, including even from the Mayor of Dallas.”

“Don’t believe the noise. We are committed to retention of our teams with vastly lower expenses–think needed infrastructure build out–than even an intra-metro move. Both teams will be in KCMO in 2040 and long after.”

Kansas City Major rejects Dallas’ idea

The Kansas City Mayor, Quinton Lucas, refers to his Dallas counterpart suggesting the Chiefs could move back to their native soil.

Founder Lamar Hunt picked up the franchise in 1963 and moved them to Missouri from Dallas.

Lucas shut this possibility down and suggests the Chiefs/Royals will remain in Kansas City until 2040 and beyond.

However, the Chiefs reporter for the Athletic has stated there is a real possibility of playing in Kansas.

Nate Taylor stated: “I think people need to understand and realize that, we all, me included, need to come around to the legitimate possibility that the Chiefs could be playing in Kansas 2030-2032.

‘We will have to discuss alternatives’

The reporter said he asked Clark Hunt if he cared about legacy or maximizing profits.

Moreover, the response of Hunt was: “Jackson County has been good to us and I want to be good to Jackson County. I don’t wanna move, I’ve told you that several times Nate.

“If this doesn’t go well, we will have to discuss other alternatives.”

Overall, the future of the Chiefs has reached an unprecedented situation.

Kansas City’s Major wants to keep the Chiefs at Arrowhead but cannot agree to their costly demands.

Both parties will have to work together to find a solution.

Nonetheless, fans needed to be realistic that the Chiefs could be playing in Kansas or another state entirely.
