Kansas City Chiefs are calling record setting player ‘Mr Perfect’, and it’s completely justified

One of the most influential positions within American football besides the quarterback is the kicker.

Kickers have the sole responsibility of using their talent to convert extra points and score field goals. It is a position so crucial that any missed extra points or field goals most likely have a detrimental impact on the team’s result.

Teams quickly learn that when you have a good kicker, you cherish them. The Kansas City Chiefs agree. They are calling Harrison Butker their ‘Mr Perfect’, and rightfully so.

One of the NFL’s most consistent

Harrison Butker has been one of the most consistent kickers in the NFL whilst occupying a spot on the Chiefs roster.

During his rookie season for the Chiefs, he set an NFL rookie record of making 38 field goals which still stands to this day. In addition, the Georgia native also converted every extra point attempt in 2017.

In terms of franchise records, Harrison Butker dominates the scene: points scored by a rookie (142), longest successful field goal attempt (62 yards), highest career field goal conversion percentage (89.1%), alongside his rookie field goal record, all belong to him.

Having just finished his seventh Chiefs season in style, his consistency has seen him score 1032 total points for the Chiefs, including the postseason.

In his most recent playoff journey, which saw him claim his third ring in Kansas, the kicker had a perfect post season record.

Throughout the 2023 playoffs, ‘Mr Perfect’ nailed every single extra point and field goal. Going 11 out of 11 on field goal conversions and smashing 8 extra points through the uprights in the same number of attempts.

Super Bowl legacy

Butker also boasted an immaculate record from over 50 yards out, not faltering when the Chiefs relied on him to score vital points from distance. One of these field goals came in the 2023 Super Bowl, with the Chiefs in desperate need of points in a low scoring contest, Butcker, despite the iffy snap, nailed the kick from 57 yards out to drag the Chiefs within four points of the San Francisco 49ers – this was the longest field goal in Super Bowl history.

The position of kicker is one of the lowest paid positions in the NFL, whilst being one of the most clutch positions at the same time. Butker’s kicking was worth his weight in gold and was invaluable for the Chiefs on their journey to becoming back-to-back world champions.

Snow, wind, rain or shine, ‘Mr Perfect’ is one of the few kickers that does not falter.
