Juju Smith-Schuster names the ‘impressive’ Chiefs rookie who has already caught his eye

The Kansas City Chiefs have finally reached the 53-man roster. And after struggling for a few years with the receiving corps, they’ve achieved their goal and strengthened the unit to the level the franchise deserves.

Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice, Skyy Moore, Justin Watson, Mecole Hardman… and JuJu Smith-Schuster, like the old days.

Kansas City seems to have opted to sign someone who is actually familiar with the system and the players, rather than one who has to learn everything from the ground up.

The wide receiver returns to the franchise that made him a Super Bowl champion in 2022. Now he has the chance to help the team win a third title.

How JuJu feels about being back in the winning team

Soon after putting pen to paper, Smith-Schuster turned up for training because there’s no time to waste and he’d already been ‘out’ for a fortnight after being waived by the New England Patriots.

This past Tuesday, he spoke to the media about the feeling of being a Chief again.

“Coming here wasn’t a tough decision,” claimed.

“Being very familiar with the offense, Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, all the guys, and just being in this facility makes your job easier. This is such a great offense. I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Also, the pass-catcher looks kind of relieved of coming back to a consistent squad.

“You got speed down the field (and) great hands. Last year, me watching Rashee Rice – his kind of position I played the year I was here,” noted.

“We have so many weapons,” Smith-Schuster said. “We only have one ball. However (Andy Reid) wants to use me, I’m ready. … It’s not about the numbers. It’s where I can be used.”

Hopes on his second stint with the Chiefs

After a year with the New England Patriots, he returned to KC and wants to take on a leadership role in the team.

“It was very cool to see how those guys used him in that way (and) in that form – being able to just see that and coming in to be a leader in that room; being a vet in the room. Just being able to help those young guys out.”

Juju commented on how it felt to experience the first practice with the franchise’s new talents

“Yesterday (this past Monday) was my first practice, and being able to see (Xavier) Worthy run was pretty impressive.

“He was just like floating across the field. It’s pretty cool that (we have) a guy like him who can open up the offense.”

He also mentioned Hollywood Brown, who is missing the team due to a sternoclavicular joint dislocation

“I know Hollywood pretty well… He can stretch the field and play everything. I love his game, I think playing with him helps me and helps everyone on the team complement each other. I’m happy he’s here, he’s in a great system.”

Smith-Schuster isn’t concerned about stats, he’s commited to getting the Chiefs to their ultimate goal: three-peating.

“For me, it’s not so much about numbers, it’s about where I can be used and fit,” Smith-Schuster explained. “I wasn’t here during training camp with these guys, so being able to come back here and be familiar with the offensive coordinator, head coach, and Pat, it made my job a lot easier.”
