Marquez Valdes-Scantling has revealed why the upcoming trip to Frankfurt, Germany, is such an inconvenience for him.
On Sunday, the Chiefs face the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany, as a part of the NFL’s International Series. It’s arguably the most exciting matchup of the season so far, and one that European fans will have a front row seat to.
The league has been playing games overseas since 2007 to grow the game’s global popularity, and the matchup between the Chiefs (6-2) and Dolphins (6-2) is potentially the most-eagerly anticipated in the series’ history.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling explains why trip to Germany is such an inconvenience
However, there’s no getting away from the fact that travelling half way around the world for a couple of days is a minor inconvenience to players.
Instead of playing at home, Chiefs (as well as Dolphins) players are having to pack their bags for a long haul flight to Germany.
Kansas veteran receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling isn’t a fan of all the travel, recently telling CBS Sports that he thinks “it sucks”.
“Yeah, it sucks,” he said during an interview. “I mean, obviously it sucks that we have to travel nine hours for a home game when Arrowhead is right down the street. But obviously we do have other fans that are all over the world, not just in the United States. So it gives them the opportunity to see some of their favorite players play.
The trip is particularly inconvenient for Valdes-Scantling, as he’s had to find a babysitter to look after his dogs for a few days.
“I know we’ve got a lot of fans over in Germany, so I’m grateful that we get to give them that opportunity. But it does suck for the players to have to be away from their families, or (I’ve) got to find a babysitter for my dogs for a couple days. Things that we’ve got to take into account. But past that, it is what it is.”

Charmin have sent the Chiefs some of their new toilet roll for the trip
However, MVS says he’s still “definitely excited to go see what it looks like over there,” although he isn’t sure “what we’re going to do to kill some time” on the near-nine hour flight.
He’s still hopeful that on Friday evening, “we’ll have a little bit of time to kind of see the city a little bit, but nothing too crazy.”
Oddly, to keep the team comfortable on their overseas trip, Charmin have sent some of their newest toilet paper to the Chiefs’ facility to take to Germany.
“Not having the essentials, like toilet paper, could be detrimental,” says MVS. “Partnering with Charmin, they’ve got us prepared for Germany and they’re making sure we’re as comfortable as possible because there’s no worse feeling than going into a hotel and not having toilet paper.”
