The Dallas Cowboys are historically one of the most successful franchises in NFL History and hit the post on their three-peat attempt in 1994.
Jerry Jones purchased the franchise in 1989 for $140 million and made a controversial decision straight away as owner.
He fired the only head coach the Cowboys had ever had Tom Landry, who had won two Super Bowls for America’s Team.
However, this proved to be a successful choice and he appointed Jimmy Johnson to take his place in the hot seat.
Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones earned their first ring in 1992
The pairing reached their first Super Bowl in 1992 and handed the Buffalo Bills their first of two successive final defeats.
Dallas had assembled a juggernaut offense with Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin.

Herschel Walkers’ trade to the Minnesota Vikings in 1989 paved the path for the Cowboys’ super dynasty, as they amassed a bucket load of picks in the most lopsided trade in NFL history.
The Cowboys went 12-4 in the following season and took care of their divisional rivals the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers.
The Buffalo Bills fall victim to the Cowboys in successive seasons
Unfortunately for them, the Buffalo Bills stumbled across the Cowboys once more and were handed their fourth consecutive Super Bowl defeat.
Jerry Jones’ franchise had won successive rings against the same opponent, posting an aggregate score of 82-30.
Shockingly, head coach Jimmy Johnson was fired by Jerry Jones due to a dispute between the two powerful franchise figureheads.
That move could have proved crucial in dictating the Cowboys’ season in 1994 as they went for the never-to-been-done-before three-peat attempt.
Barry Switzer replaces Jimmy Johnson but fails in his first seaosn
Barry Switzer was appointed Johnson’s successor and guided the team to an impressive 12-4 regular season campaign.
Dallas comfortably dispatched the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional round winning 35-9.
However, in Switzer’s maiden season as the head coach, he fell short in the NFC Championship game against the 49ers.
Their victors would go on to win Super Bowl XXIX and they would become the first team to accumulate five Super Bowls.
America’s Team would go on to win another ring in 1995, making it three final wins in four years.
Nonetheless, they missed out on the illustrious three-peat.
The Kansas City Chiefs are the next team in line to make a daring attempt at the feat in 2024.
