Charlotte Jones: Background

After graduating with a BS degree from Stanford University, majoring in human biology, she moved into her first line of executive work. This involved overseeing the office and legislative staff of US representative Tommy F. Robinson for just 1 year, from 1989 to 1990.

In 2010, the 57-year-old became the chairman of the Salvation Army National advisory board and in doing so became the first woman to ever hold this position.

Two years later, she occupied a similar role, this time as the chairman of the elusive NFL Foundation – which she holds to this day.

Charlotte Jones has used the state-of-the-art facilities at AT&T Stadium to the Cowboys advantage. She played a lead role in hosting several events from Super Bowl XLV and the annual Cotton Bowl to the NBA All-Star Game and multiple concerts performed by some of the best global talent.

Her impeccable branding and marketing skills have seen the global brand of the Dallas Cowboys mascot Rowdy and their infamous cheerleaders grow.

She explained: “Charlotte is a crisis consultant. When it’s not as smooth of a ride as you maybe would like for it to be, that’s when she shines. And I think everybody does always look to her to be that rock solid, smart sounding board for everyone to turn to.”

Family feuds

Despite the family connections – being the daughter of Jerry Jones – she has been fired on two occasions.

The Dallas Cowboys Owner has sanctioned the termination of his daughter over budget issues twice, however, Charlotte was reinstated back to her positions swiftly both times.

She remains an icon for pioneering women in the sports industry, and could be set for a bigger role in the Cowboys organisation in years to come.

In comments reported by the Sports Business Journal, John Tatum, CEO of Genesco Sports Enterprises, said: “Jerry gets credit for building the brand, but Charlotte makes it shine.”
