How free agency exits have made Dallas Cowboys top priorities even tougher

It is widely well-known in the NFL community that the Dallas Cowboys have been moving incognito during the offseason so far.

After the signing of Eric Kendricks last week, this was seen as the kickstart the Cowboys needed in free agency.

However, the linebacker remains the only outside addition to the roster with the ‘legal tampering’ window starting nine days ago.

Jones needs bodies through the door

The lack of signings is a cause for concern but is made worse with the exodus of players leaving The Star.

10 players have officially left America’s Team in free agency and many holes need filling.

On a slightly positive note, five players have resigned to new deals for the 2024 season.

Nevertheless, there remains a severe number of bodies leaving instead of entering.

Some players have not been offered new deals, whilst others like Michael Gallup have been cut, and Leighton Vander Esch has retired.

Jones states the Cowboys’ major problems

Owner, Jerry Jones stated that the key priority issues were the lack of run game and stopping the run.

Although, the decisions that the Cowboys have made so far have given the perception these are not issues.

The most recent free agent to leave Dallas was run-stopper Johnathan Hankins.

The defensive tackle has agreed to a deal with the Seattle Seahawks instead.

Dallas Cowboys reporter, Michael Gehlken, has raised concerns about the exits.

Cowboys reporter stunned

He posted: “Cowboys identified run game and run defense as two key facets they want to improve in 2024.

“Their task is to achieve that without re-signing their top running back, two O-line starters, DE Dorance Armstrong and their starting NT. LB Leighton Vander Esch is also retired.”

Ultimately, the Dallas Morning News reporter is stunned by their actions not matching the front office’s words.

America’s Team is just waiting and free agents are being picked off the market quicker than they can react.

The problems continue to mount for the Cowboys and Jerry Jones needs to take out his chequebook and start addressing them now.

The NFL draft cannot fix all the problems… can it?
