Cowboys legend and Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin recently compared Patrick Mahomes to ‘God playing quarterback.’

The Chiefs’ recent matchup with the Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany, was billed as one of the most exciting game of the season so far.

All the talk heading into the game was of Tyreek Hill, the former Chiefs turned Dolphins wideout who has lit up the league this season.

However, in the end it was a mistake-filled game that saw the Chiefs run out 21–14 winners, despite failing to score a TD in the second half. Hill, meanwhile, was held to 62 receiving yards and fumbled the ball which led to a wild 59-yard KC touchdown.

Hall of Famer says Patrick Mahomes is ‘God playing quarterback’

Hill, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce all being on the same field together again brought back vivid memories of their time together in Kansas City.

The trio formed one of the most potent offenses in the NFL during their run together in KC, and led the team to victory in Super Bowl LIV.

Sunday’s game brought up questions about what could have been had the three of them stayed together for longer. However, even without Hill, Hall of Famer Michael Irvin still thinks Mahomes is essentially ‘God playing quarterback’.

“Patrick Mahomes is basically God playing quarterback,” said Irvin on FS1’s Undisputed this week. “I don’t care what you guys say, he doesn’t have quite the talent he needs at wide receiver, but he always makes just enough plays to keep them in the game. He’s a phenomenal talent.”

Irvin also lamented the breakup of Hill, Kelce and Mahomes back in 2022 when the former was traded to Miami.

“That [Mahomes-Hill combo] should have never been broken up, that was the greatest thing I’ve ever seen on a football field,” added Irvin.

Hill think the Chiefs and Dolphins is football’s new rivalry

Through nine games this season, Mahomes has 2,442 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Hill, meanwhile, leads the league in receiving yards with 1,014 yards in eight games. Cheetah could become the first NFL receiver with 2,000 receiving yards in a season – he needs 986 receiving yards over his next nine games, which works out at just under 110 yards a game.

After Sunday’s game, Hill said he thinks the Chiefs vs Dolphins could be football’s new rivalry.

He said: ”I had a lot of fun [on Sunday], man. That’s what football is about. I feel like this is football’s new rivalry, so it was a fun day to play football in a different location. Had a blast.”

We’re not sure; the Dolphins are 0-3 against teams over .500 this season and will have to make a lot more noise against better teams – and in the playoffs – if they’re to be considered genuine rivals.
