According to reports, former Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is set for “starter reps” in his homecoming game in Dallas this weekend.
Ezekiel Elliott is returning to Dallas this weekend for the first time since leaving the team earlier this year. Sunday’s game AT&T Stadium will be a homecoming game of sorts for the veteran running back after spending seven seasons with the Cowboys.

Ezekiel Elliott to get ‘starter reps’ vs Cowboys in homecoming game
Elliott has come off the bench in all three games this season for the Patriots, who have a 1-2 record heading into Sunday’s clash with the Cowboys. However, he had the best game of his short tenure in New England in Week 3 during a 15-10 win over the Jets.
The three-time Pro Bowler rushed for 80 yards on 16 carries, and is now expected to have a more prominent role against his former team.
“My understanding is his role is expected to increase today against his former team,” NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport said. “They know, in this building, how much this game means to him. I’m told he’s expected to get starter reps at running back. Will he actually start? That depends on the play. But you’re going to see an increased role from Zeke Elliott.”
Zeke impressed in Pats’ Week 3 win over Jets
28-year-old Elliott was released by the Cowboys in March after gradually losing the starter role to Tony Pollard.
He signed a one-year deal with the Pats in August and was widely expected to play a backup role to Rhamondre Stevenson. However, his performance last week against the Jets has clearly impressed Bill Belichick who is willing to afford the RB more minutes in Week 4.
Elliott has rushed for 122 yards on 28 carries in three games so far this season, and will no doubt be looking to get one over on his former running mates on his return to Dallas.
The Cowboys, meanwhile, will be hoping to spoil Zeke’s homecoming. They suffered a devastating 28-16 loss to the Cardinals in Week 3 and need to get back in the win column after a positive early start to the season.
