ESPN expert sees one thing that could make Dallas ‘a problem for everybody in the NFC’

The Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 season is probably one of the most decisive in recent years.

That’s because Dak Prescott’s future is unclear with the franchise and it could be his last dance with the team. For this season, the quarterback holds a $55.455 million cap hit – a very high amount that Dallas has to pay for a squad that isn’t even a favourite to go to the NFC Championship.

Jerry Jones has already spoken and reiterated that America’s Team is going all-in and is confident that they will go further than last year.

However, Prescott hasn’t received any new offensive weapons to have more targets on the field. CeeDee Lamb stays with the Cowboys for 2024, but hopes to have his contract extended as soon as possible.

For the organisation, the QB’s situation is being handled in the best possible way. It seems that there is interest in renewing his contract, but it all depends on how the next season goes.

Cowboys’ VP has full faith in Dak

In a radio appearance last Monday, vice president Stephen Jones made an effort to make people understand the franchise’s line of thought regarding what is going on.

“I mean, I totally think Dak can lead us to a championship. He does everything the right way. He’s certainly the leader of this football team. He keeps everybody motivated in the offseason. He’s got everybody working out and doing all the things that it takes to put in the work to give yourself every opportunity to win a championship.” said confidently.

He added a “justification” for the win drought in the postseason.

“It just so happens that sometimes that old oblong football doesn’t bounce your way. And we’ve had some tough breaks and tough games there in the postseason. But, you know, we’ve won 12 games three years in a row. I think that’s right at the top in terms of what teams have done over a three-year period. And, you know, we’re hanging around the rim. We’ve just gotta go up there and grab it, to use a basketball term, and dunk it in. we’re hanging around the rum. We just gotta get the job done.”

What does Prescott need to prove on the field in 2024?

On last Tuesday’s edition of NFL Live, the discussion was about what level the Dallas QB needs to reach this year to guarantee his contract extension.

Analyst Tim Hasselbeck believes in Prescott’s talent and doesn’t think he has much to improve on.

“I actually don’t think they need to see anything from Dak. I mean, Dak has proved to be a really good player. I don’t think there’s any doubt that they believe that Dak is good enough to help them win a Super Bowl – look at the past contracts he’s signed with them. They certainly have felt that way and look, I would agree because he need to play a little bit better in the postseason, sure he does. And that happens to 31 guys every year, basically because they say, look, I need to play a little bit better in the postseason to get my team over the hump.”

Hasselbeck is living one day at a time: “I think there’s so much attention right now, really by us and others about the future for the Dallas Cowboys. The reality is: they’ve got that president this year. They’ve got Micah Parsons under contract this year. They got CeeDee Lamb under a contract this year. They have other good players on their football team.”

“Do I think they need a better running back? Yes, but they’re a good football team and I think it makes a noise and if they get hot at the right time, then I think they’re a problem for everybody in the NFC.”

Prescott is coming off an All Pro season, with over 4,500 passing yards and 36 touchdowns (led the NFL), with the best pass completion percentage of his career – 69.5.

Still, there must be at least a tiny bit of reluctance in the organisation to give the QB a long-term contract due to the fact that he hasn’t been able to decide important games in the playoffs.
