Derrick Henry reveals how he felt watching Ravens vs Chiefs in last season’s play-offs

The Baltimore Ravens come into the 2024 season looking to threaten the near-dynasty of the Kansas City Chiefs.

For some years now, the franchise captained by Lamar Jackson has been among the best teams in the NFL. No wonder, because the work done there is really very good.

But Baltimore always hits the crossbar and never manages to advance from the AFC Championship.

However, 2024 could be a different direction. That’s because Derrick Henry has arrived to become another name to give the Ravens a new look. In this case, a winner one.

And the Ravens’ first assignment is already with Kansas City.

Fresh start for Derrick Henry

Coming from the Tennessee Titans, the running back has established himself as one of the best in the league, but as he gets older, the rush to fulfil his dreams grows even greater.

The Titans had some promising and high-quality seasons, but they didn’t reach the Super Bowl while Henry was still with the team.

As soon as free-agency 2024 opened, the running back was free to test the market.

In March, he signed a two-year contract with the Ravens.

The player will earn a base salary of $16 million, which could rise to $20 million with incentives, over two years. Of that amount, US$9 million is guaranteed.

Four times a pro-bowler and once an all-pro, Henry racked up some big marks in his eight-year stint in Tennessee. He played 119 games, had 9,502 land yards and 90 touchdowns. There were three more TDs in passes received.

His peak year in the NFL came in 2020, when he passed the 2,000-yard mark (2,027) and scored 17 TDs, while also being named offensive player of the season.

In 2023, even though he was far from his peak, he still had a season of over 1,000 yards on the ground (1,167) and 12 TDs, having played in all 17 of the Titens’ games during the campaign.

A new opportunity to make history

At 30, Henry joins Lamar Jackson and should form an explosive duo running the ball. The franchise lost backfield names like Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins in free agency.

His first chance to show what he’s made of will be this Thursday in the NFL kickoff with none other than the Chiefs.

The rematch of the last AFC Championship has the potential to be one of the great games of the regular season.

Derrick Henry is hungry for a win, especially against KC.

Recently, the running back spoke about wanting to be in Baltimore last season to experience this game against the Chiefs.

“I wish I could suit up that day watching the game”, said.

It seems that the runner sees the opening game of the NFL season as a kind of revenge for the Ravens. A player who has already embraced his new team without even officially taking the field.

“Hell yeah. But now it’s my turn, so got to take advantage of it. It’s going to be a hell of a game. The Chiefs are always tough, they’re solid on all three teams. Got to be locked in this week to be able to execute on Thursday.”

If Henry’s will is anything to go by, life for the Chiefs won’t be the smoothest in 2024.
