Jerry Jones missed out on a player who could be of great support to the team that intends to go all-in this season.
The expectations for the Dallas Cowboys’ running game in the 2024 season are not high. The running unit is quite young and underdeveloped.
It seems that Jerry Jones and the entire organisation will continue to adhere to their more conservative tactics. That’s why they’re putting all their bets on the Draft ever since they lost Tony Pollard.
For the fans, there’s still a chance that Ezekiel Elliot could return to the squad, but nothing concrete has been announced yet.
Just before free agency officially opened, Derrick Henry was free on the market and there had been rumors that Dallas might be interested in the player and had a chance of bringing him in. But it wasn’t true.
It wasn’t long before he was snapped up by a team. The Baltimore Ravens made a move for the running back and landed him to join Lamar Jackson – a massive upgrade.

What Derrick Henry actually wanted
On The Pivot podcast, the ‘King’ has come clean about the whole rumour involving him and the Dallas Cowboys.
“It would’ve been crazy,” he said. “I thought it’d been some type of reach out, some type of talks or whatever. They never reached out, you know what I’m saying?”
“I don’t really know too much about their organization. All I know is what I hear. I was talking to my agent. They weren’t really interested. It is what it is. Like I said earlier, I’m gonna be where I’m gonna be, and I feel like Baltimore was the perfect spot.”
Cowboys move would’ve been easy
The funny thing is that he is currently residing in Dallas, but the franchise showed no interest. He then signed a two-year contract with the Ravens worth up to $20 million.
“Even though I’m living in Dallas and Dallas being a perfect situation, as well, because we lived there, we ain’t got to move. But at the same time, Ravens, the history of it, and then talking to Ray (Lewis) at the Pro Bowl, his passion about the organization, his impact there and how he talked about it. I was like, man, if I’m not in Tennessee or I don’t get to go to Dallas, I’d love to be a Raven.”
Now he’s focused on the work he has to do in Baltimore. “I’m ready to come in and be that added piece to it to help spring them forward any way possible. Any way I can”, said Henry.”
His denial of the idea that the franchise had gone after him to have conversations was a shock and a disappointment at the same time for the Cowboys Nation.
The quiet offseason of America’s Team has been a talking point and the hopes for the 2024 ‘all-in’ season are not the most encouraging, not least because the situation within the organisation is not the most settled.
If Dallas had signed Henry, it would have been a decisive move – another piece to help and bring experience to the team’s running game. It would have been big.
However, since the franchise didn’t step up to get the player, they now have to make do with the prospects that are about to arrive and the possible return of Elliott.
