One of the biggest rivalries in NFL history will be renewed on Sunday.
The Dallas Cowboys’ quest for the Super Bowl begins this weekend when they host the Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium.
There’s no shortage of things to discuss between these rival franchises, including Mike McCarthy facing his former team.
Sunday will feature two aggressive offensive units who love to go down the field, no pun intended, and we’re likely to see our share of deep balls in this encounter.
Air Show
When you have two gunslingers squaring off like Dak Prescott and Jordan Love, there’s sure to be fireworks.
For Dak, the postseason is about redemption in hopes of earning a big payday and proving he can take this team to the next level.
As for his counterpart, Love was Aaron Rodgers’ understudy for years and will make his first career playoff start.
For Love this game’s a chance to come out of Rodgers’ shadow and prove he’s Green Bay’s long-term solution.
During the regular season, both quarterbacks lit up opposing defensive backs, with Prescott leading the league in TD passes (36) and Love finishing second (32).
The Packers’ biggest defensive vulnerability is in pass coverage and the Cowboys’ strongest offensive attribute is their passing game, so look for Dallas to take plenty of shots down the field.
Green Bay gave up a 100.3 rating to wide receivers in 2023, the fourth-highest in the NFL.
They won’t be getting a free pass on Sunday, having to face CeeDee Lamb, the #2 receiver in the league this season (1,749 yards).

Lamb isn’t the only receiving threat the Packers must worry about this weekend.
Brandin Cooks has a receiving score in three consecutive games, posting 657 yards through the air.
The Packers also had trouble containing opposing tight ends, allowing a 105.8 rating, 23rd in the NFL.
Dallas’ Jake Ferguson had the second-most targets on the team (102) while finishing second in receiving yards (761).
It’d be shocking for McCarthy not to attempt an all-out aerial assault versus the Green Bay secondary.
Spreading the Love
While Lamb is clearly the go-to guy for Prescott offensively, the Packers don’t have a marquee receiver.
In 2023 Jayden Reed led the Cheeseheads in receiving yards (793), followed by Romeo Doubs (674).
No Green Bay receiver came close to matching Lamb’s totals this season.
However this is still a pretty solid group of pass catchers by committee.
Four receivers put up over 400 yards receiving in 2023, including the two names mentioned above.
Christian Watson (422) and Dontayvion Wicks (674), had solid campaigns with the latter finding the end zone twice last weekend.
There are 10 different Packers who reached the century mark for receiving yards this season.
That means DaRon Bland and Stephon Gilmore could have their hands full this weekend.
The passing matchups and who can make more big plays may determine the outcome.
