Just over a week after everything fell off the rails in San Francisco, the Cowboys’ second successive game in California was a lot better to watch if you’re a Dallas fan.
Their 20-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers leaves Mike McCarthy’s crew feeling good after the implosion against the Niners ,as they head into the bye week with a record of 4-2.
With their narrow victory over the Chargers, the Cowboys have now won eight straight games in the regular season following a loss and are an impressive 10-1 after a defeat since 2021.
The biggest bounce-back story on Monday was easily the Cowboys’ defense who held the Chargers to just 53 yards on the ground in the return of Austin Ekeler to the lineup.
Going into that game, the Chargers had been averaging 24 points per game, but Dan Quinn’s crew held them to under 20 points, the first team to do so against the Chargers in the regular season since Tennessee in Week 15 in 2022.

Resilience
That’s a massive improvement from their previous encounter when Sa Fran put up 421 total yards, including 170 on the ground.
Monday was a case of bend but don’t break for the Chargers D, who gave up 18 first downs and 219 yards through the air but also prevented LA from scoring a touchdown in half of their trips to the red zone (2/4).
One of those Chargers scores in the red zone, though was definitely not on the defense as Jalen Tolbert chose to touch the ball, thinking the LA punt struck one of his players with the home team recovering and punching it into the end zone on the turnover.
Dallas may have only gotten one sack on the day, but they did a great job of hurrying Justin Herbert, who didn’t have much time in the pocket throughout the opening half.
Herbert also moved the ball decently against the Cowboys’ secondary, but when Dallas needed a play, they delivered with Stephon Gilmore intercepting Herbert to ice the game.
As for the man seemingly taking shots from all sides heading into this game, Dak Prescott was great at times and also missed some opportunities.
The biggest positive for him in their victory was his decision-making, as he didn’t throw an interception, going 21/30 for 272 yards and a score, while he ran for one as well.
Offensively, meanwhile, this team continue to struggle with Mike McCarthy calling plays, going 1/3 in the red zone.
They did, however, find more success through the air with CeeDee Lamb, who caught seven passes for 117 yards, while Brandin Cooks picked up his first TD as a Cowboy.
After a crazy Sunday in the NFL that saw the Philadelphia Eagles lose their first game of the season, things are looking much better for Dallas in the NFC East.
Dallas is now just a game behind them in the standing, with a potential first-place showdown on the horizon at the beginning of November.
From all the negativity surrounding this team throughout last week, they should feel a lot better about themselves after Monday.
