The Dallas Cowboys have persisted with Mike McCarthy in 2024 but Bill Belichick is said to be waiting in the shadows, says the latest ESPN report.

Jerry Jones decided to stick with McCarthy as his head coach but he is demanding success.

When Belichick agreed to mutually leave the New England Patriots after 23 years, he was linked to the Cowboys job.

Rumors circulated that America’s Team would ditch McCarthy and appoint the eight-time Super Bowl winner.

However, with one year remaining on his deal, the Cowboys have stuck by McCarthy.

Bill Belichick has his eyes set on the Dallas Cowboys job in 2025

A collaborative report surfaced from ESPN yesterday and the Cowboys were heavily involved.

According to the investigative article, one of Belichick’s friends has said he will only become a head coach again if it is under Jerry Jones.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Belichick had a toxic end to their seemingly fruitful relationship.

A power struggle between the two personalities has been depicted and the report suggested Kraft told the Falcons owner Arthur Blank to not trust Belichick.

Furthermore, the ESPN feature has implied that the unemployed coach has his sights set on a union with Jerry Jones.

Cowboys expert says Belichick is ‘classless’ for mentioning McCarthy’s job

Veteran Cowboys reporter Mike Fisher broke down his takeaways from the eye-opening account.

He has explained this was a ‘classless’ act to speak about another coach’s job.

On his podcast, Fisher stated: “It’s classless for Belichick to put himself in a position now where not just the head coach but the whole organization has to look over its shoulder.

“By Jerry [Jones] talking about this openly, Jerry was the first to put Belichick on McCarthy’s shoulder.

“Coaches ‘vulturing’ for other coaches’ jobs… is not the way this is supposed to work. I do wonder if it speaks to Bill Belichick’s character.

Fisher believes it now looks poor that Belichick mentions he wants the Cowboys’ job.

Jerry Jones is under heat for mentioning Belichick during the offseason

In addition, the Cowboys writer does shift blame towards owner Jerry Jones for mentioning the 72-year-old.

Now, McCarthy will know that if he does not deliver the success for a new deal, his job could already be agreed in secret.

This report has raised numerous questions about its validity and has been reprimanded by other workers at ESPN, per Mike Florio.

America’s Team already has to battle drama with key player contracts, they do not need to be wrapped up in further theatrics.
