Cowboys cut wide receiver and may be targeting ex-Buffalo Bills veteran to join squad

The Dallas Cowboys have hinted that they may sign a free agent in the coming days or weeks.

The team’s offense was more damaged than strengthened during the offseason. Some important losses and nobody new to fill the gaps.

Tony Pollard, Tyron Smith and Michael Gallup were significant departures for the squad.

Even though they made a good draft, the running back position was left aside. The franchise selected a young wide receiver and could still count on CeeDee Lamb this coming season, but there are still more players missing from this unit.

Potential plans for Dallas’ receiving corps

On Wednesday, reporter Jordan Schultz broke the news that WR Zay Jones was taking a tour of the Cowboys’ facilities.

Apparently, the player also met with the Tennessee Titans and the Arizona Cardinals.

During his career, the veteran has already shown good results. In the NFL since 2017, he has had spells with the Buffalo Bills, Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars.

In his time playing for the Florida franchise in 2022, Jones caught 82 passes for 823 yards and scored five touchdowns. Last season, however, injuries hampered his performance: in nine games, he had 34 receptions for 321 yards and two TDs.

There’s no news of any concrete interest in signing him, but he could be an option for America’s Team, especially given the low salary cap and the motivation Zay Jones needs to be 100% healthy for the 2024 season.

Cowboys made a move that could indicate a desire to sign Jones

Martavis Bryant, signed by Dallas in November last year as part of the practice squad, was waived on Wednesday – after news broke that Jones was taking a tour of the Cowboys’ facilities.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, there are already other teams interested in Bryant.

At 32 years old, Bryant hasn’t played a game in the NFL since 2018. He was out indefinitely by the league that year for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement after a previous suspension for breaking the NFL’s anti-drug policy.

So maybe there’s a chance for Jerry Jones & Co to add another offensive weapon to Dak Prescott’s roster.
