Chiefs fans call for move to sign Super Bowl winning Tight End as free agent

Enough is enough. That’s the message from fans and writers for the Kansas City Chiefs regarding their dismal showings in the pass-catching department.

The wide receivers have underperformed, and a victory over the New England Patriots hasn’t silenced those who follow this team closely.

The staff at Bleacher Report believes KC needs to acquire a big-name pass catcher ahead of the playoff stretch. A lot of fans on X agree.

“Blake Bell is the 11th-best passing option on a team with bad passing options. Why is he even running routes?!” KC radio host Carrington Harrison after the Patriots intercepted Mahomes on a ball targeting Bell.”

That post racked up over 750 likes.

While it seems most journalists and fans agree they need a new face, what’s the solution?

Calling on Zach Ertz?

The trade deadline is long gone, so if Andy Reid is going to add a new face to the offense it has to be someone on the signing market with experience.

That’s where Zach Ertz comes into the picture.

The Arizona Cardinals waived the three-time Pro Bowl tight end on November 30, and, by all accounts, he’s eager to find a new home.

While Travis Kelce is filling the tight end spot in KC, Ertz has something no one outside of Kelce has in the Chief’s’ receiving department: dependability.

Given the creativity we’ve seen out of Reid and Matt Nagy, Ertz could be a helpful commodity.

The idea of Ertz coming to KC is one that fans and writers are excited about.

Ertz won a title with the Eagles, and according to those closest to him, Philly holds a special place in his heart.

Zach’s mother, Lisa told the Philadelphia Enquirer her son adored the “City of Brotherly Love.”

“They left [Philadelphia], but they didn’t want to pick up their heart and leave,” she said. “They wanted me to stay here and do the work. And it’ll always be the place he played the longest. And it will be forever in their hearts.”

How Ertz would fit in the Chiefs’ offense?

While Philly could be Ertz’ first choice, that doesn’t mean all hope is lost for KC.

Some of Ertz’s best seasons with the Eagles were under Doug Pederson, who’s part of the Andy Reid coaching tree.

If things fall through in Philly, you’d have to think KC would be next on his list and he’d adjust well to a system similar to what he had with the Eagles.

Dallas Goedert is back in the fold for the Eagles, so whether it’s Philadelphia or Kansas City, Ertz would be second fiddle in the tight end department.

However, with the Chiefs, he could get a lot more looks as a receiver, and Patrick Mahomes may want to call his number, knowing his resume.

The tight end position isn’t what it used to be, as we see speedy players like Evan Engram in Jacksonville play more like a wide receiver.

Ertz likely to get more targets and make an immediate impact in KC when compared to Philadelphia.

The question is, will Ertz decide with his head or his heart?
