A medical emergency at the Kansas City Chiefs’ facilities has postponed the ninth of 10 scheduled OTAs.

The practice has been relocated and will take place this Friday.

On Tuesday next week (the 11th), the franchise will begin the mandatory three-day minicamp.

Apparently, the incident happened during a team meeting with the special teams.

The player is now in stable condition

Defensive lineman BJ Thompson suffered a cardiac arrest after having a seizure. The information was released by ESPN reporter Adam Teicher.

The player was quickly re-established by the Chiefs‘ medical team and then taken by ambulance to hospital.

According to the journalist, Thompson is now in a stable condition and under medical care.

It is not yet known what caused the 25-year-old’s seizure.

Thompson’s college coach posted a message wishing him a good recovery

Thompson was the 166th pick of the fifth round in 2023, coming from Stephen F. Austin.

Before transferring to SFA in 2019, he played two seasons at Baylor University. The DL racked up four sacks and six tackles through 19 games with them (Baylor Bears).

In 2020, he recorded 8.5 tackles for a loss and six sacks in 10 games and was named Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year. Thompson added 9.5 sacks in 2021 and five sacks the following year.

Colby Carthel, his coach during the collegiate years, posted a message on his X profile in prayer for the player.

In his rookie year in the NFL, Thompson took part in one game: he registered two combined tackles in 28 defensive plays in the Chiefs’ Week 18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

The defender was also in on 16 special teams snaps.
