The Kansas City Chiefs are already preparing for Week 2 of the NFL and are likely to be without their major addition of the season.
Hollywood Brown suffered a really serious injury in the first game of the pre-season and is expected to be out of the KC squad for a few matchups.
But that doesn’t mean his recovery isn’t going well. After sustaining a sternoclavicular joint dislocation, the wide receiver has avoided surgery as much as possible so as not to miss the season, which has the potential to be the most important of his life.
The Chiefs have already got past the Baltimore Ravens unscathed – they won very narrowly in the final minutes.
Now they face the Cincinnati Bengals, coming off the back of an improbable win over the New England Patriots.
So Kansas City are more favourites than ever. However, you can’t doubt the potential of the only franchise to have knocked the Chiefs out of the AFC Championship.
Especially knowing that Hollywood Brown must be missed…

Xavier Worthy taking centre stage
Xavier Worthy arrived in KC with a lot of hype. After becoming the fastest player in the 40-yard dash at the Combine, his reputation was somewhat inflated.
And so far he’s not only meeting but exceeding expectations.
While Hollywood is sidelined, the rookie has taken a starring role in the opening game of 2024. It remains to be seen whether things will continue like this from the next clashes.
Worthy’s first score in an official NFL game came during an end-around play, when he passed behind a group of blockers and then activated beast mode for a 21-yard touchdown.
Two quarters later, he ran through the Ravens‘ secondary and caught a 35-yard pass and reached the endzone again.
Andy Reid is keeping his feet on the ground when it comes to the newcomer; he’s happy with his good start, but he’s not going to throw him to the lions to be swallowed up.
Hollywood Brown’s health status
Although Brown’s rehabilitation is going very well, he still hasn’t been available for training.
This past Wednesday, the pass-catcher remained out of practice.
There was some optimism that he would return for the match against the Bengals, but the head coach ruled it out.
“They all set a little different, so it’s something that has to move to get back into place,” Andy Reid said.
He then added: “They all set just a little different and heal [differently] from what I understand; I’m not a physician by any means.
“They’re all just a bit different. You’re talking just centimeters of it being off can be a problem, so you want to make sure those things are healed – and that they’re actually in the right spots. We’re having him see different people that are experts at that. I don’t think there’s a ton of data on it, especially in our field, here.”
Reid also mentioned that Hollywood hasn’t lost faith and has its head on straight about his injury: “He feels like he’s in a pretty good spot,” noted.
The HC admitted that if it had been for the WR, he would have participated in the game against the Ravens.
“It’s not him. He would have been out there the last couple weeks if he had a choice. It wouldn’t have been the best decision he made, but you’ve got to trust the doctors here.”
Despite missing the two potentially toughest battles of the season, Brown should return earlier than scheduled.
